PaleyFest Poster #3!!!

Soooo...this year's PaleyFest Honors The Office had to be cancelled because of filming conflicts (it has now been replaced with PARKS & REC on the same night, the 16th!!!), but that doesn't mean the poster goes away...

One of our favorite artists, Canada's Jason Edmiston did this beau, and it will still be available - and the good news is - it will be available EVERY NIGHT! Starting tomorrow, Jason's poster will be purchasable at our table, and every night we're scheduled to be there, we'll have copies (including the obvious Parks & Rec day) to include with that night's honoree.

4 more to reveal, and honestly, we think this is our best print set yet! What do you think?

2nd Paleyfest poster!!

As we approach Friday night's kick off PaleyFest event for American Horror Story and Daniel Danger's corresponding screenprint...

(Daniel posted a better picture of his print, so we stole it)

...we also have a second event just the next night for the cult sitcom, Community, on March 3rd. We're happy to reveal the second poster in the 2012 PaleyFest series, this one by artist, Joshua Budich.

Some reminders and updates: we will be at the events selling them in the lobby of the Saban Theater.

Each is an edition of 300 in total, and the sizes vary. They are all $35 each and numbered. Last year, the PaleyFest people were very nice and let people without tickets come in once the event had started just to purchase prints, but that I can't guarantee yet. BUT, any prints left over from the event, will be put on the website the next day at gallery1988.com. The in-store Groupon that was available a few months back will not be valid for these posters, as it's not in-store. That should be it, right?

You can buy tickets to the American Horror Story PaleyFest Honors here - http://www.ticketweb.com/snl/EventListings.action?pl=paley&orgId=11604

You can buy tickets to the Community PaleyFest Honors here - http://www.ticketweb.com/t3/sale/SaleEventDetail?dispatch=loadSelectionData&eventId=4238135&pl=paley

See you there!

The Menagerie of N.C. Winters

Coming up next at our Venice location, is a solo show with artist N.C. Winters, and the artwork is INSANE. This show is going to be incredible. If you want to see some of the most beautiful and powerful depictions of your favorite childhood characters (TMNT, Mario, Sloth, Gizmo...) this is definitely the show for you. The work we've seen so far is stunning. N.C. will have a bunch of new paintings available at the show, as well as several new prints...

The show opens Saturday, March 10th at Gallery1988 Venice. Stay tuned for more sneak peeks as the show gets closer. And in the meantime, you can see additional sneak previews of the work on N.C.'s tumblr: http://ncwinters.tumblr.com/

See you March 10th!

We had heard rumblings that [adult swim] ran a bumper advertising out art show a few weeks back, while it was still displayed at our Melrose location, and now we have evidence! Thanks to everyone who made this, and the art show, happen!

PALEYFEST 2012!

We are so happy to be back at PaleyFest this year, as the organization asked us once again to create limited edition screenprints for the event. For those who weren't around last year, every year the Paley Center For Media here in Los Angeles produces almost two weeks of events, where your favorite TV show casts and crews get together to talk about the show and sometimes even premiere new episodes. Last year we commissioned artists to create posters and it was a huge hit. You can see all of last year's poster by CLICKING HERE.

This year we will be at 7 different events, selling the posters at the event in the lobby of the Saban Theater in Los Angeles. Last year, they let people walk in to buy a poster if you were super nice, and waited for the chaos of entrance to calm down. Here are those dates and the corresponding artist line-up:

March 2nd: American Horror Story by Daniel Danger
March 3rd: Community by Joshua Budich
March 6th: The Office by Jason Edmiston
March 7th: Sons of Anarchy by Phantom City Creative
March 10th: The Vampire Diaries by Jessica Deahl
March 13th: Mad Men by Jay Shaw
March 14th: Modern Family by Jeff Boyes

You can buy tickets still for these events, and check out the entire line-up, by CLICKING HERE. They also offer packages of different nights combined.

These posters are incredible and we can't wait to show you guys. These artists really stepped it up. Check out this blog as the dates get closer for your first looks!

NEXT UP AT MELROSE...

We couldn't be more excited to be working with Weird Al, who's been really hands-on with the curation and production of his career retrospective print set. Over the next week, we'll let you know what song/album each of these artists are doing for the set - cause that will blow your mind. And we're giddy just knowing Al will be in the house as our host on March 9th at the opening reception at G1988 (Melrose).

But even beyond that, it's that time again! Is This Thing On? 2: The Weird Year will once again have 100 artists create pieces inspired by their favorite funny people. Last year's show was one of our most popular, and from what we've seen so far - 2012 will not disappoint. Next week we will announce the artist line-up as well and we'll be debuting pieces again through our promotional partners at FunnyOrDie.com, so stayed tuned and we'll link you up.

Dare to be stupid.

TONIGHT'S DOGS!

Just a reminder that tonight, we'll be back at Jason Reitman's LACMA Live Read event, selling the newest poster from the series from artist Matt Owen. If you don't know, Jason has decided to cast an all-black group of actors to read the shooting script of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs and, just like his past readings, it's going to be one for the ages.

The prints are 16x20 inches, limited and numbered in an edition of 100, and $30.

We will be there are 6:15, selling the posters before and after. This event is sold out, but a stand-by line will start at 6 PM. You DO NOT have to have a ticket to purchase one of the prints, so stop by and say hello.

ANOTHER LACMA READ and MATT OWEN'S GENIUS

Curating the posters for film director Jason Reitman's LACMA Live Read series here in Los Angeles has easily been one of the coolest things we've done here at G1988. Watching Paul Rudd read the dialogue of Westley from Princess Bride or Kate Hudson reprise the role her mother originated in Shampoo has been truly insane. For each event, Jason asked us to create the night's poster, and we've jumped at the chance, employing artist Matt Owen for the job.

When Jason told us the concept for the his second to last reading, taking place next week at LACMA (it's sold out, so we're sorry for even talking about it), we couldn't believe our ears. As exclusively reported by Entertainment Weekly today, Jason will be casting a group of actors to read the script of Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs in front of a packed house. One catch though...the cast will be all black. Already announced, Terrence Howard (Mr. Blonde), Anthony Mackie (Mr. Pink), Cuba Gooding Jr. (Mr. Orange) and Anthony Anderson (Nice Guy Eddie made famous by Chris Penn). ARGH!!!! MIND BLOWN!!!! Obviously, the film's main character Mr. White (played by Harvey Keitel) hasn't been announced yet, but we all have theories.

Here's Matt Owen's Live Read exclusive print -

We will be at the event, in the courtyard of LACMA, the night of the event (Feb. 16th), selling physical copies. YOU DO NOT need a ticket to get a poster. There will also be a stand-by line, but we'll remind you next week.

While talking about Matt Owen, he will have three online exclusive prints for Multiplayer x2 that we LOVE.

That one is called In N Out, and I dare you not to giggle.

And these are a set of "Mario Bricks," but you can also buy them individually.

These editions will be small, and again only available online, so be on the lookout.

We open Multiplayer x2 tomorrow, hope to see you at G1988 Melrose for the opening reception!

In The News...

Officially one of our first days off in the New Year, I'm letting this Tuesday be pretty lazy, but wanted to post up three of our favorite press mentions for the [adult swim] show from G1988 (Melrose). It seems to be everywhere and we're so thankful for all the coverage...

LA Weekly wrote up my favorite explanation of the show, for sure. Growing up, reading the LA Weekly, being featured on their site with such a lengthy article is always an honor. Click the picture above to read it.

io9 joined in on the action and gave you an overview of some of their favorite pieces. Click above to see.

We'll be back in the galleries tomorrow, back on the grind. getting ready for new shows in February, one that just might give you a Kill Screen.

Flavorpill wrote up the show and sent their readers over. You know to read it at this point.

SF Sketchfest 2012!

We're so excited to announce that we will be at SF Sketchfest this year, participating in one of the most exciting events on the schedule! If you don't know about SF Sketchfest, the amazing annual comedy festival in the Bay Area, learn more by CLICKING HERE.

After successful comedic partnerships with Comedy Central and FunnyOrDie, G1988 will take the show on the road, to San Francisco, for "Wet Hot American Summer: The Live Radio Play." Taking place January 21, 2012 at the sold out Marines' Memorial Theater, G1988's participation will continue the success from "Camp Firewood," the recent 10-year anniversary tribute art show we held at our Venice location for the cult classic, "Wet Hot American Summer." For the live radio play on the 21st, which will be adapted for the stage by Thrilling Adventure Hour's Acker & Blacker, will feature Michael Ian Black, Chris Meloni, Joe Lo Truglio, Amy Poehler, David Wain, Paul Rudd, Molly Shannon, Marguerite Moreau and Ken Marino on stage performing the movie as never seen before!

Gallery1988 will be set up in the lobby, before and after the show, selling some of the most popular posters from our recent "Camp Firewood," and releasing 4 new prints made especially for, and released first at, SF Sketchfest.

This one might seem familiar, as it's a brand new color variant of the "Wait For Me, Abby Bernstein" print from artist Justin Santora that sold out almost immediately during the Wet Hot tribute show. We'll have these in limited quantity first at Sketchfest Radio Play event, then whatever is left over will be sold on our website, gallery1988.com.

With the help of artist Brandon Rike, Gallery1988 created these iconic prints of Andy, Coop and Gene from the movie, each limited to only 50 each! These are awesome and seem like perfect prints to get signed that night. Whatever is left over from the event, will again be available on our website after the 21st.

If you're attending SF Sketchfest, make sure to stop by and say hello. And if you're so inclined pick up a print and fondle some sweaters.

The Deep End.

We are steadily approaching our Adult Swim x G1988 show, which opens this Friday night, the 13th, from 7-10 PM and the work is so incredible. Two days out, let's get you some of these sneaks...

Casey Weldon summons the Tim & Eric fans, AND the cat lovers, painting this psychedelic tongue swapping that imagine hanging on ALL OF YOUR WALLS.

Jason Edmiston continues to shock me, creating flawless paintings time after time. They genuinely look like prints. This time he takes aim at everyone's favorite action figure manipulator, Robot Chicken.

Dan Lydersen is on FIRE. Carl has never looked so good, and you have to see the detail on this one in person (and actually you have to see the detail on ALL his pieces while you're at it). Luke Chueh came in the other day and made a pretty good argument as to why Dan is one of the most impressive new artists he's seen.

Graham Erwin bring a new screenprint to G1988, this one paying tribute to Space Ghost Coast To Coast. One of my favorite emerging poster artists, Graham is one to watch.

2012 will be Dave Perillo's year. Mark. My. Words. And he kicks it off with a beautiful Venture Bros. print!

That's it for now, guys. Go watch Adult Swim tonight and get in the mood, cause Friday is only two days away.
