We are steadily approaching our Adult Swim x G1988 show, which opens this Friday night, the 13th, from 7-10 PM and the work is so incredible. Two days out, let's get you some of these sneaks...



Casey Weldon summons the Tim & Eric fans, AND the cat lovers, painting this psychedelic tongue swapping that imagine hanging on ALL OF YOUR WALLS.



Jason Edmiston continues to shock me, creating flawless paintings time after time. They genuinely look like prints. This time he takes aim at everyone's favorite action figure manipulator, Robot Chicken.



Dan Lydersen is on FIRE. Carl has never looked so good, and you have to see the detail on this one in person (and actually you have to see the detail on ALL his pieces while you're at it). Luke Chueh came in the other day and made a pretty good argument as to why Dan is one of the most impressive new artists he's seen.



Graham Erwin bring a new screenprint to G1988, this one paying tribute to Space Ghost Coast To Coast. One of my favorite emerging poster artists, Graham is one to watch.



2012 will be Dave Perillo's year. Mark. My. Words. And he kicks it off with a beautiful Venture Bros. print!

BILLLLLLLLLLLLL!

We here at Gallery1988 are major Bill Murray fans, so much so that I have a cat with the same name. I feel like our parents had Peter Sellers, their parents had Buster Keaton, and we have Bill. An absolute eccentric genius who has inspired so much in our generation, he almost warrants a "OH MAN" every time you start rattling off the movies he's been in. That's why we decided to tribute Mr. Murray with our newest show, "Please Post Bills." Opening Nov. 3 at the Melrose gallery, next Thursday, this exhibit will feature 80 artists, all creating paintings, sculptures and prints influenced by the movies, TV appearances and iconic jokes of a comedic legend.

Our friends over at SlashFilm posted the first preview to "Please Post Bills," so we wanted to share the love over here at our blog.

Miranda Dressler reminds us what the best part of re-living Feb. 2nd over and over would be.

Grab the Controller!

After our signing tonight with author Ernest Cline for his book, "Ready Player One," we're excited to keep the video game mojo going with "The Old School Video Game Art Show" over at Gallery1988 (Venice). It opens this Friday night, September 16th, with an opening reception from 7-10 PM. The artwork for this show is outstanding, and it's sneak peek time!!

Jayson Weidel tackles everyone's favorite ape (OK, some may like Dr. Zaius more).

Been a while since our good friend Greg "Craola" Simkins has done a group show, but he's back and mourning the death of 8-bit. So sad.

David Eichenberger paints a Pac-Man with robot legs, a malfunction and what seems to be a taunting ghost. Times are rough.

G1988 favorite Dave Perillo remixes a game very close to many peoples' hearts, Burgertime. This one is not for vegans.

Justin White advertises for a guided tour of "Le Chateau" and warns us that our princess might just be in another chateau. I bet they play awesome music on this tour.

Joey Spiotto created another fake album, like he's done for Firefly and Dr. Horrible, this time giving a plaque to fictitious Zelda music. THIS IS SO AWESOME.

You're now entering...

Been pretty excited to announce this show for over a year....



We'll be paying tribute to what is easily one of the most influential television shows in the history of the medium, "The Twilight Zone," with "Another Dimension," where over 50 artists will reinterpret and remix episodes, themes and iconography from classic episodes of the series. As a DIE HARD Twilight Zone fan, this is easily going to be a 2010 highlight for me at least (and when you own a gallery, you can book with that in mind). The show opens Thursday, May 20th and will have an opening reception from 7-10 PM. Will we play the Twilight Zone theme show over and over again on loop? Probably not. But maybe.

The Gallery1988: LA crew has been looking forward to this week all year! Friday night, our gallery will play host to "SMart: Artwork Inspired By Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's SModcast." If you don't know about SModcast, no worries, because just like with everything I know nothing about....I can teach you....through Wikipedia.

SModcast is a weekly podcast featuring filmmaker Kevin Smith and his long time producer partner Scott Mosier, although guests occasionally feature. Released each Sunday night, the episodes are generally one hour in length and feature Smith and Mosier discussing current events and other non-sequitur topics. The name was derived from taking the first letters of "Smith" and "Mosier" and replacing the "P" in "Podcast". The podcast is distributed through Smith's entertainment website Quick Stop Entertainment. New episodes are made available for download there each Sunday night or Monday morning, and are then released through the RSS feed the following Friday in order to ease bandwidth strains on the Quickstop Entertainment.

And they've been doing it quite some time, as they are currently about to release episode #96. And this is not your father's podcast (cause your Dad LOVES podcasts). These are dirty, real, free and tremendously funny. Topics like how long it would take for Kevin to eventually make a sexual advance on Scott if they were stuck on the LOST island, how people would react if Jesus came back to fight Osama Bin Laden, what Hitler's dog was probably like and how one might confront a member of 80's rock band Foreigner if you were to see him at the supermarket are brought up on the program with extreme delight. And Titan Publishing just released "Shootin' the Sh*t with Kevin Smith: The Best Of SModcast," which takes some of the show's best bits and transcribes them into the written word. So to celebrate the book release and Kevin's Q & A event at the Orpheum Saturday night, we enlisted 25 artists to take these transcribed SMod moments and turn them into original paintings and prints for display and purchase. "SMart," hosted by Kevin and Scott, is a one-night event at G1988: LA, this Friday, Oct. 23rd from 7-11 PM and has spawned some amazing pieces. And we're excited to see the SMod-inspired pieces from:

The Autumn Society is an artist collective based out of Philadelphia, but is now branching out worldwide, and in 2 days they're opening their very own video game tribute art show. The show will take place at Brave New Worlds Comics in Philadelphia and will feature original works inspired by your all time favorite video games, from Super Mario Bros. to HALO.

If you love video games and affordable artwork, you can't miss this show. You can check out some sneak peaks on the Autumn Society blog and if you like what you see, we have some good news because exclusively here at G1988 we'll be releasing limited edition prints of some of the standout pieces in the show, including the three images above!

We know first hand that video games and original artwork are a perfect match, so we're very excited to be involved. Stay tuned for these new print releases, as well as an exciting collaboration project with G1988 and the Autumn Society in 2010!
