Casey Weldon this Thursday at G1988 (Venice)

This Thursday night, we'll open "Groty," an incredible solo show from painter Casey Weldon at G1988 (Venice). We're so excited that Casey will get the walls all to himself, as he's long been a favorite in our group shows. If you need a little refresher, here are some of Casey's recent hits:

The Old School Video Game Show at G1988 (Venice)

GPK x G1988 at G1988 (Melrose)

Crazy 4 Cult 5 at G1988 (Melrose)

And now he's all growns up and showing a stunning selection of new works -

Here's a quick tease from the show, with two paintings -

I couldn't be more excited about the "Feline Aerodynamics" series!!

Make sure to join us, and Casey in person, at his opening reception this Thursday night at G1988 (Venice), 7-10 PM!!

WHATTA WEEKEND

CRAZINESS over here, sometimes with 50 people in the gallery at one time checking out "Is This Thing On?" Today, Jeffrey Ross stopped by to see his piece, and we forgot to take a picture. But he was really stoked. If you come by, I'll draw you a stick figure picture of how happy he was.

AND this happened on Friday during the day...

Gallery friend Mike Rosenstein brought Derek Deal's Children's Hospital tribute poster over to the set of Children's Hospital and took this INSANELY META picture...

That's so insane to me. Rob couldn't believe it and went home with the gift!

And then today, we had to close up an hour early because our friends at the Nerdist Podcast (Chris Hardwick, Jonah Ray & Matt Mira - who also had a piece by Casey Weldon in the show) decided to record an episode here in gallery! WITH GUEST SARAH SILVERMAN! Sarah was blown away by her two pieces, by Stella Hultberg and Tara McPherson, and we were just as blown away that they decided to record the podcast in the gallery. Here are pictures of them being funny...

Every day has been a bit of a surprise during this show, so we can only guess what's next...

We'll be back open Wednesday, 11-6.

LAST FUNNY OR DIE PREVIEW

Tonight's da night, dude. 7-11 PM - The work is hung. It all looks incredible.

We had our last [review at FunnyOrDie.com - so I figured I'd share it with you.

Jeff Boyes takes his shots at Clark Griswald (a.k.a. Chevy Chase). One of my favorite screenprints we've ever carried. This will be a hot ticket.

Travis Louie gives the one eye treatment to Brian Posehn. AMAZING.

Judd Apatow x Star Trek x Casey Weldon = genius.

DO NOT MISS OUT TONIGHT. I'll ridicule you if you do.

Ooooh! Culty.

The day before Crazy 4 Cult 4 opens, and the gallery is abuzz with anticipation. The art really is so impressive, I hope as many of you as possible can swing by the opening reception, Friday night, 7 - 10 PM. With Kevin Smith hyping it up on KROQ this morning (which is becoming an annual tradition in its own right), we're expecting quite a fun evening.

For those interested in purchasing prints (which by the amount of emails seems like everyone), the first time they will be available is at the opening reception on Friday night. Then, prints will be for sale online at our website, gallery1988.com, on Saturday afternoon. And all the originals will be up then too!

And we will start the line outside the gallery at 5 PM PT.

Time for sneak peeks again...

Stella Im Hultberg, who's portrait of Marla from Fight Club is a major highlight from Crazy 4 Cult's past, returns for CFC, this time giving us her take on Mathilda from 'Leon: The Professional." She basically did it again, as this piece is stunning.

Justin Santora celebrates the 15th Anniversary of Mallrats with a poster depicting "that kid on the escalator." One of my favorite moments from one of my favorite movies. Can't wait for people to get this signed by Kevin Smith himself.

G1988 newbie Scott Listfield literally has BLOWN us all away. This incredible piece is even more stunning in person and lays down the parking law. The trip to the opening reception would be worth it if we only displayed this one piece, trust me.

Casey Weldon and I obviously share a muse, as he takes a shot at Mathilda as well, showing us Natalie in all her NY shine.

Daniel Elson brings his meece to the show again, this time from a galaxy far, far away. Love these!

And lastly, here's the Crazy 4 Cult official poster for 2010, this time designed by Sir Mike Mitchell. I can't really praise these enough and by the amount of emails we're getting, neither can you.

SOON.

Well Done!

Los Angeles artist, Casey Weldon is our next featured artist at www.88point5.com!

Casey has created a new series, all acrylic on watercolor paper with lovely rounded-corners. At $250.00 each, these are a steal because they are beautiful paintings AND they're framed! Since the show doesn't officially open until this Saturday, you'll have to settle for a couple preview pics for now...

You can see the entire show this Saturday, May 23rd at www.88point5.com!

NOTCOT

Jean Aw at NOTCOT did such an amazing write up on our new SF show! A HUGE thank you to Jean for covering the show. Check out the article here...

http://www.notcot.com/archives/2009/05/gallery_1988_sf.php

I also want to thank everyone who brought children's books to the opening last night. We received a ton of books that will be dontated to the San Francisco Unified School District. Success!! The books totally added a nice element to the show. Crowds were gathered around the table, flipping through their favorites. It was pretty awesome. By the way, if you haven't read Shel Silverstein's Giving Tree in a while, you definitely should. It's quite sad, but such a beautiful story.

The show runs through May 23rd and we'll be collecting the children's books through the end of the exhibit. I hope you can see the show in person, the artists did an amazing job. If you can't see it in person, check it out online here...

Realized

Just noticed our last post here on the G1988 blog was number 400 total. Pretty nuts.

Well, New Year tomorrow....new show announcement today!

I am soooo excited for this, Brandt Peters' debut LA solo show, "Cackle Factory." Gonna be a big one!

But we've got Beastie Boys first on Jan. 8th...and here's a glimpse at Casey Weldon's awesome piece, where almost every incarnation of the Boys are partying. Love this piece!

Have a great New Years Eve!
