Buzz-A-Brewing
Our friends at Cartoon Brew ran a story about the upcoming "Under The Influence: He-Man and the Masters of the Universe" show and figured we'd share it with you. Not to mention it gives you a nice little peak at Chogrin's piece. And why stop there? Here's the whole piece...

Eve
I'm currently enduring the last 10 minutes of the LOST Underground Art Show (and its accompanying year and a half of work) - and the last 10 minutes of my work year for 2009 here at the gallery. At 4 PM PT, we will close up for 2009 and take our yearly Holiday break both in LA and SF. Been an incredible year where our industry has taken a major hit (along with anyone selling basically anything), but with some crazy unexpected turns, we've had our most successful year yet. We couldn't be more thankful, and more specifically we couldn't be happier to be closing 2009 with the LOST show here in the gallery.
And before we take off, as Katie and I both will be spending some time in Mexico (albeit separate cities), we wanted to remind everybody about our HUGE show on January 8th, Friday night, opening from 7-10 PM. With our partners at Mattel, we'll be opening our annual "Under The Influence" show, this time honoring the incredible 1980's toy and cartoon property, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. The work for this show is mind-numbingly awesome. I can not believe how EVERY artist has stepped up to pay tribute to such a fun honoree! Figure some last minute peeks were in order...
Ken Garduno takes a swing at the notorious bad guy, Skeletor.
While Gabe Lanza built up both sides in his own toy-making vision.
Johnny Sampson poses with Skektor, who is striking quite the pose himself.
Ayami Kawashima makes her return to G1988 after selling all her Crazy4Cult pieces, this time taking aim at the high flying Sorceress.
Actual Garbage Pail Kid artist Layron DeJarnette channels two 80's icons into one, with his GPK-inspired depictions of Beastman and Trap Jaw. I'd be lying if I didn't tell you guys this is a serious dream come true.
N.C. Winters continues to just get better, and totally blow my mind.
Again, write the date down! January 8th, 7-10 PM. We're also transforming the gallery into Castle Greyskull with Mattel and Pretty in Plastic, so you have no excuse. It's going to be awesome.
Have a great Holiday Season! And remember, both galleries will be closed through January 8th, when the LA gallery with open the Masters of the Universe show. But you can email us at gallery1988@aol.com for LA inquiries or gallery1988sf@gmail.com for the SF location.

Shirts!
We've hid these off the website/blog/anything purely because you CAN ONLY BUY THEM BY WALKING INTO THE GALLERY, but we just got another 150 total of these LOST shirts in the gallery for purchase, in all sizes. They are designed by the amazing Olly Moss. The only way you can get one is by buying it in person, and we'll be open today until 6 PM and we'll be open Christmas Eve from 11 - 4 PM.
See you then?

G's Up
G4 posted their video of the opening night of the LOST Underground Art Show and it's a pretty incredible 8 minute clip! What a great group of media-saavy artists in this one!
The Power
2010 is so close. I can feel it. Which means we're just a few weeks away from our newest installment of "Under The Influence," the annual show where we work hand-in-hand with a major influence on the artists we work with to create a tribute show in their honor. Past honorees have included the Walt Disney Company, Stan Lee and Beastie Boys - and this year we partnered with Mattel to tribute He-Man and the Masters of the Universe! Still can't believe this is happening!
The show will open Friday night, January 8th with an opening reception from 7 - 10 PM and it will NOT want to be missed, TRUST ME. We're working with Mattel to create quite a Grey scene in the gallery for the show. And the artwork is incredible - and so many new names in the show to introduce you to.

Alessandra Fusi

Jeff Boyes (print)
Our friends at SlashFilm.com ran a story about the upcoming show today....
CLICK HERE for that article, which features almost 20 more pieces that will be seen in the show!
You should not miss this show. It's a wonderful way to kick off 2010 with your sword to the sky!

Always brings such a smile to my face to see our genre and movement being covered in media outlets that have never covered these artists or shows in Los Angeles before, and never planned on it. Keep it moving.

Not Calm
We still haven't stopped working around the clock for the Lost Underground Art Show, which opened Tuesday night, with what was our largest opening reception to date. With fans sleeping outside the gallery overnight (sticking line for over 27 hours), we opened the show, unveiling 20 original LOST-inspired paintings and debuting the 16th poster from acclaimed artist Tyler Stout seen below (which was released 24 hours later and sold out in less than a minute).
Executive Producers Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse didn't stop signing autographs the entire night, and we sold a ton of artwork! You can see the whole show by CLICKING HERE. Writers like Adam Horowitz, Eddie Kitsis, Liz Sarnoff, Gregg Nations, Melinda Hsu and Jeff Pinkner also attended, as the show's creation and loyal fan base were celebrated in one big room. But don't take my word for it....take CNN's.
Paul Scheer, who kicked off the whole project back at Comic Con, as well as Damon and Carlton, surprised those waiting in line earlier in the day with Limited Edition Supra shoes (based on LOST's "Expose" episode) and the limited edition resin 4-toed statue figures that were also customized by artists in the show. Both of these items have less than 50 produced in total.
Soon I hope to break down everything that Gallery1988 has been doing with LOST over the past year, but that time is not now, as we are soooo tired and that will be one seriously detailed report. And tomorrow morning I'm off to Chicago for Lora Zombie's solo show at the Clandestine Landmark Location. It's in Wrigleyville, and the party is Saturday night, 6 - 10 PM.
I'll be hanging out, some come say hi. Here is a peek at some of Lora's incredible pieces.
Her work is so incredible and so affordable! Stay tuned to the blog, as we'll put all the work on here as well for you to peruse. You won't want to miss her first solo show.
Until then, stop by the LA gallery anytime between now and Christmas Eve. We'll even be open Sundays 12-4 through Christmas Eve for your Holiday shopping convenience.
In closing...we'd like to thank EVERYONE at LOST and ABC Marketing for working with us for over a year on the intricate and ground-breaking LOST Art Campaign. Damon, Carlton, Samantha Thomas, Noreen O'Toole, Mike Benson, Barry Jossen and everyone who believed in us creating this project from the ground up in the most organic way. And we want to thank all the other integral people who helped with this project like Johnny Cupcakes, DJ AM (I'll never lose the excitement we shared over working on this), Steve Aoki & the team at Dim Mak and Deckstar, Ron Herman, Crumbs Cupcakes, Spin NYC, Fall Out Boy, 88-Keys, 44th Ward in Chicago, the University of Arizona bookstore, the list literally never ends. And to every poster artist - thank you for your enthusiasm and incredible work - the frenzy is over your work as much as it is LOST. As well as the artists who created paintings and customized toys for this - it's appreciated that you participated in something I had to keep so secret for so long.
Again, it's all so greatly appreciated.

Help Me?
Been here all day. Finishing up the LOST Underground Art Show. And it's brilliant. And just such an amazing way to cap off a project that has been shrouded in secrecy for so long. But I've been so proud of every aspect and want to tell everyone about it. And after tomorrow night comes and goes I hope to post a thank you to those who helped and gave so much to this project. But until then, I'm here alone. Looking at all this stuff on the walls. All the work and surprises. For what was my favorite TV show even before they came calling. It's kind of one of those moments where you think The Secret might actually be real, even though I usually hate anything Oprah endorses (t-shirt sheets excluded OBVI).
There's nothing I can show you really. All I can do is just tell you that the sold out 16 posters you see on DamonCarltonAndAPolarBear.com will all be displayed in one room for the first time (and yes, I know you only see 15 on the website). There will be original artwork based on the television series. And there will be surprises. A few surprises.
Until then...
So you know. I'm making this face because we are a little under 24 hours away from the opening of the LOST Underground Art Show and I just found out we already have a line outside. Shit.

Best For Last
December 2009 / January 2010 is easily the most exciting 2 month span in Gallery1988 history. With SF opening Paper Pushers, 88point5 rolling out with 1988 fav Chris B. Murray and Los Angeles opening Vivisect Playset, The LOST Underground Art Show and our annual January Under The Influence show (more on that later in the week) -it's what many would call a busy time of the year. But December 2009 will also mark our first art show at the Clandestine Industries Landmark store in Chicago, Illinois. With Clandestine Industries owner Pete Wentz, Gallery1988 will be orchestrating and curating art shows every once in a while over in Chicago, hoping to bring some of our west coast flare out to the Midwest. And our first Clan Art Show will open December 19th, introducing Russian artist Lora Zombie, a promising name you'll be seeing a lot of at 1988 in the next few years.
Lora, who's work was recently seen as the iTunes art for Fall Out Boy's new single "Alpha Dog," is an extremely talented young artist making her US debut at the Clandestine Landmark store. Already creating quite the buzz on the Internet, Zombie is ready to breakout - and now is the time to pick up her work while it's still affordable. Here are a few examples...
Lora's art show will be part of the Clandestine Holiday party, which will also mark the first time clothes from the "Death of Neon" collection (which includes a Lora Zombie designed shirt) will be available in the store. Exclusive Clandestine jewelry and a new Lora Zombie Landmark exclusive shirt will be first available during the event as well. And I'll be visiting!
Stay tuned to the blog, and our website, for previews and ways to pick up Lora's artwork - as we'll be selling the work through our normal avenues. And those in Chicago, we'd love to see on December 19th.
