Best For Last

December 2009 / January 2010 is easily the most exciting 2 month span in Gallery1988 history. With SF opening Paper Pushers, 88point5 rolling out with 1988 fav Chris B. Murray and Los Angeles opening Vivisect Playset, The LOST Underground Art Show and our annual January Under The Influence show (more on that later in the week) -it's what many would call a busy time of the year. But December 2009 will also mark our first art show at the Clandestine Industries Landmark store in Chicago, Illinois. With Clandestine Industries owner Pete Wentz, Gallery1988 will be orchestrating and curating art shows every once in a while over in Chicago, hoping to bring some of our west coast flare out to the Midwest. And our first Clan Art Show will open December 19th, introducing Russian artist Lora Zombie, a promising name you'll be seeing a lot of at 1988 in the next few years.

Lora, who's work was recently seen as the iTunes art for Fall Out Boy's new single "Alpha Dog," is an extremely talented young artist making her US debut at the Clandestine Landmark store. Already creating quite the buzz on the Internet, Zombie is ready to breakout - and now is the time to pick up her work while it's still affordable. Here are a few examples...

Lora's art show will be part of the Clandestine Holiday party, which will also mark the first time clothes from the "Death of Neon" collection (which includes a Lora Zombie designed shirt) will be available in the store. Exclusive Clandestine jewelry and a new Lora Zombie Landmark exclusive shirt will be first available during the event as well. And I'll be visiting!

Stay tuned to the blog, and our website, for previews and ways to pick up Lora's artwork - as we'll be selling the work through our normal avenues. And those in Chicago, we'd love to see on December 19th.

We're Number 1!

Congrats to our current 1988 exhibitor Pete Wentz and the rest of his band Fall Out Boy for a number 1 release today over at iTunes with their new studio record "Follie a Deux." And congrats to Luke Chueh, who's album cover artwork is currently being downloaded (or purchased for us dinosaurs) by over 500,000 consumers! We were totally stoked to have worked on this album in regards to art direction and check out the 2nd part of our involvement with the album, the inside liner artwork of LA artist Ronald Kurniawan, which 1988 conceived and art directed.

"America's Suitehearts" is the jam that kept me from passing out from the flu I'm fighting today, while packaging up all these Holiday orders with Cory. To all of you guys, GREAT WORK!

Through The Wire

Not only did Luke Chueh do the cover for the upcoming Fall Out Boy album, "Folie a Deux," but with point guard G1988 as art director (gallery version of Tony Parker if you will) - you knew other favs were gonna pop up too.

As seen on ITunes this week, artist Ken Garduno created the image for the band's 3rd ITunes release, "What A Catch, Donnie," seen below...

And rumor has it that this drawing is gonna show up on some of the band's t-shirt merch too! The album's release date was pushed back to mid-December, so keep an eye to the blog to see what other artists find their way into the artwork!!!

Bodnar's Close-Up

With "Salad Days" steadily approaching in SF (with what I consider the BEST name of all-time for any 1988 show....EVER), Mark Bodnar's cameo during Fall Out Boy (another GREAT name, this time for a band) Joe Trohman's MTV Cribs is AWESOME. Much like our friend Luke (ALSO opening his solo on Sept. 6th in LA, the plugs come and go, my friend) on Joel Madden's Cribs episode, Mark's painting gets some serious face time right before the 4 minute mark. If I ever end up on Cribs for my fly fishing championship, my extreme walking career, or for being the owner of the most Cyndi Lauper original vinyl (7, if you MUST know), then they'll also see the huge painting from the Master Bodnar that Katie and I own. LOVE the Barber piece, and we're expecting more gems like that one when he breaks out on Sept. 6th in SF. All 3 artists from Salad Days (Bodnar, Jesse LeDoux and Nathan Stapley) will be in attendance, but Mark might be wearing those weird Window Blinder glasses that Kanye West wears now: because he's on MTV.

Oh, and we have a funny announcement regarding G1988 x MTV, but that's for a later time.
