As far as previews go, this is the only image Olly is going share before the show opens. So you'll have to come to the show on Thursday to see the rest! Stay tuned for Jon Klassen's preview tomorrow...

Member of the Scribe

It took some serious sweat, but the Olly Moss Paper Cuts show is down and ready for pick up/shipping. Says a lot considering it is totally sold out. You can't buy a thing from us, even if you wanted to. A serious bummer to already see a handful of the original pieces at such marked up prices on eBay. Sadly, after 7 years of running the gallery and being involved with a lot of emerging, still affordable when they show with us, artists - the only person it really hurts is the artist and their next show. There's nothing we can do now, as Olly's original concept was that people could hang 3-5 of the pieces in their house, and people seem to be taking advantage of that. Again, it's happened over and over with shows at G1988, just still kinda hurts to see people buy artwork without any intention of enjoying it themselves.

On to more positive things though...

This Thursday night we open "Baggage & Freedom," an art show from D. Ross, also known as "Scribe." If you even have your little toy in the vinyl toy world, you know how awesome Scribe's work is. He just got into LA from Kansas City, and we're stoked to be putting together the show with him. The reception will be 7-10 PM, and make sure you come by because he will be putting together a limited time installation you have to see.

Here's a sneak peek at one of my favorite pieces...

Until then...

100's

Our friend Bobby Hundreds came and checked out the Olly Moss "Paper Cuts" exhibit during it's last few days, then Internet'd about it...

You can check it out, by CLICKING HERE.

Today is the last day to see this amazing show in its entirety, since tomorrow is pick-up day, and I have a feeling people will be here as early as humanly possible to get their new acquisitions.

Riddled Them That!

On opening night of the Olly Moss Show, "Paper Cuts," we had a bit of a hidden contest for those who visited the show. There were ten pieces mixed amongst the massive amount of laser cut one-offs that had green stickers on their tags. And one piece in the gallery, depicting The Riddler, who's tag explained if you were able to correctly name all of the characters and email it to us by midnight the next day, you could take home The Riddler, FOR FREE.

So congratulations to Aron Yuster, who named all ten correctly and then was randomly selected from the group of all the geniuses who got 100%. And by randomly selected I mean we laid them out, closed our eyes and picked one.

Here are the answers for those who love "answer keys."

Great Odin's Raven - Ron Burgundy
The Right Man in The Wrong Place - Gordon Freeman (Half-Life)
This Deal Is Getting Worse All The Time - Lando Calrissian
I Demand To Have Some Booze - Mithnail & Marwood (we also accepted Withnail and I)
What's The Most You Ever Lost On A Coin Toss - Anton Chigurh
Not Robin Hood - Green Arrow
I Didn't Want To Be An Emperor - The Jewish Barber (Adenoid Hyknel), the Great Dictator
Want Some Gold? - No-Face, Spirited Away
It's Not Easy Being White - Franklin and Gob
Day of the Dead - Manuel "Manny" Calavera (we also accepted Grim Fandango)

Thanks to Threadless!

Our friends at Threadless put together a brilliant video chronicling the madness that was Olly Moss's solo show. I am so honored to have been a part of this show, which is now exactly 27 "Don't Worry" prints from a COMPLETE SELL OUT of around 500 items.

EXCLUSIVE

GREAT exclusive interview with Olly before we opened the doors for his solo show is over at /Film.

You can read it here.

DO NOT DISTURB

We're all pretty tired. Why you ask?

pic via here, and originally from Kevin Tong here. You can see pictures from the opening reception and exhibition at that last link too. You can also see a 360 view of the gallery here.

Olly Moss's solo show was the craziest, most fast paced exhibition of it's kind at G1988 ever. From 7-10:30 we never looked up. We want to thank Olly for creating such an incredible show, working tirelessly on almost 200 pieces (there is currently ONE LEFT FOR PURCHASE). We're honored to have been the venue for Olly's first solo show. Over the next few days we hope to put the remaining prints for sale on our website, but for now, we have two days off.

SHHHHHHH

It's still all a secret, so I have nothing to show you people from tonight's Olly Moss Solo Show opening reception at G1988: Melrose from 7-10 PM. There are over 25 people currently in line, with over 10 sleeping overnight. Yeah, it's like that.

But don't be afraid to come tonight, because we have a system where we know everyone will get to see the show. Also, cause it's funny to see me stressed.

Interview with Olly Moss

It seems like every one is talking about the same thing. NO, not the Royal Wedding or Donald Trump's political views. Olly Moss's solo show here at Gallery1988 (Melrose) opening May 7th, from 7-10 PM. We get numerous emails and dozens of calls a day asking about the show, but honestly, we don't know much. Olly's first solo show reeks of secrets. All we do know is that he's creating an unbelievable amount of new work and that people will be lined up, and most likely sleeping outside. Here's a recent conversation I had with the art wunderkind.

Jensen: First off, this is my second time using Skype, which is hands down the most confusing computer program for me. It makes me feel like my parents on the Internet. I assume working with so many US clients/galleries/friends has you pretty proficient in Skype...

Olly: Can you still hear me? [ed. note - I may have spoke too soon]

Jensen: no I can't.

Olly: Good good. Kevin [Tong] is on the phone and I'm pretty sure you don't want to hear him book a doctor's appointment.

J: I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMT OF THAT.

O: I would like to use Skype more than I have to. Most places aren't set up to use it so I end up having to run up crazy cell phone bills. Also, my skype account was hacked this year and someone billed about $150 of skype time to my account. Lamest identity fraud ever.

J: Well, it's not that lame if they knew all the insane stuff you've been doing. Imagine the contacts they had for ONE DAY! It is truly amazing to Katie and I how fast you've become such a huge sensation in design and screenprints. Obviously your immense talent is undeniable, but the speed in which you've become a premiere name is unprecedented. I remember when we first talked to you about 2 years ago, most of the stuff you were producing wasn't even created large enought to print. Is this all surreal to you?

O: Yes, absolutely. It's amazing. I never even considered that anyone might want to look at my work, let alone buy it and hang it on their wall.

J: Can we quickly remind, or let people know, how old you are?

O: I turned 24 in January.

J: That's going to make a lot of our blog readers consider themselves lazy. Because in just 2 years, you've found yourself working hand in hand with not only us and the Alamo Drafthouse, but with Duncan Jones on offical posters for his movies, Marvel creating exclusive commissioned imagery and even secret projects we can't talk about that will have your work as the OFFICIAL poster for a HUGE movie. And the secondary market for your work is INSANE. Does seeing these prices on eBay and on message boards, does that ever affect your thought process?

O: I try not to think about money; it's never been a good motivator for me. Every job I've taken solely for money has turned out badly. I'm lucky in that I often get to work on projects in which I am genuninely interested.

J: Which leads us to a project that has been solely art directed and commissioned by yourself: your first ever solo show, here at Gallery1988 (Melrose), opening May 7th. We all know it's incredible shrouded in secrecy, but tell us what you can...

O: It's something that I've wanted to do for a long time. It's incredibly nerdy, by far the nerdiest thing I've ever done. [a few seconds pass] It's huge. I've mentioned that there will be over 150 pieces, which is true. but it's more like one massive piece, comprising of smaller elements. It's a massive pop culture installation.

J: And a majority of these pieces are one-of-a-kind?

O: Yeah, they're all one-offs.

J: Well, all the people who feel lazy for being older than 24, now feel super stressed to get one of these pieces. And you've been living in Los Angeles, prepping for the show, yeah?

O: Yes I've been here for almost a month now. I am a couch surfing pro.

J: How has being in LA, compared to the UK, inspired you from a pop culture angle?

O: The people out here have a better grasp of pop-culture knowledge, for sure. It's easier to bounce ideas off my LA friends and I get fewer confused looks when I'm trying to explain my latest project.

J: And you'll have some new screenprints available at the show as well, too?

O: Yeah, there will be new prints available at the show. I've had a lot of requests for some of my recent pieces to appear as prints, and I've saved them all up for this show.

J: Lastly, this show is basically the most secretive exhibition we've had in our 7 year history, so I know we can't divulge anything...but what do you want people to take from it?

O: I want people to have fun. I think people will get a lot out of being there on the opening night. I guess I'm shooting for a comprehensive exploration of my favourite parts of pop-culture - movies, tv and, of course, video games. I've put months of work into it, and it's a totally new medium for me. But it's designed to be fun, and I really hope people enjoy it.

O: Thanks!

DO NOT MISS THIS SHOW. I AM TELLING YOU.

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the "Required Reading" opening on Friday night. We had a packed house and a line out the door. People's reactions to the show have been amazing, and we have Rob Jones and Mitch from OMGPosters to thank for that. Their curating and assigning skills were unheralded in my opinion. So, thank you so much guys. And we obviously have to thank the artists as well. Without them, it's just Mitch and Rob emailing people who don't exist. So, thank you guys too.

All the artwork is now online and available, so CLICK HERE. A large amount of the posters have sold out, but we have some incredible prints still left!

A housekeeping note: We did have a handful of oversells this show, as the site actually crashed at one point from high traffic (the third time ever!). At this point, on Sunday at 4:30 PM PT, everyone who had to be refunded, has been so. Barring any major catastrophe, everyone who has not gotten an email and has a transaction number (usually it's a #10000 and 4 more digits) - you are safe. Thank you to everyone with your patience and sorry to those who had to get refunded.

So...you'd think with this chaos and all the paperwork, and oversells, and headaches, and lines outside the gallery, we'd be taking a break next.

um.no.

Some past 1 PM

The Olly Moss Mystery Tubes will go on sale a little after 1 PM PT today at gallery1988.com. These will only be available online, not through phone or in-store orders. There is a 2 per household limit, and if you buy 2 - we can't promise it won't be the same poster twice. That's all part of "mystery," even to us. Good luck.

Mystery Shopper

This coming Tuesday, March 23rd, we're happy to be jumping back into the Olly Moss business. You might know Olly Moss as the poster-making sensation from our LOST Underground Art Project (as his Locke's Secret print is still going for $700 on eBay) or from his recent "Master Race" sold out print from still running "Greatest Moments In Sports" exhibit. To say that Olly has quickly become a top name in the print world (with only 2 prints released in total ever) would be an understatement.

Welllll, this Tuesday we will be selling what we're calling the "Olly Moss Mystery Tube." The mystery tube will cost $35 and inside the tube you will get one of three NEW screenprints from now LA native Olly Moss. Each movie inspired print will be signed and numbered and from an edition of 100. You won't know which one you're getting, but TRUST US...it will be AWESOME no matter what you get. Don't sleep on this because you will regret it. Especially once the word gets out about what's in the tube!

Get ready!

Shirts!

We've hid these off the website/blog/anything purely because you CAN ONLY BUY THEM BY WALKING INTO THE GALLERY, but we just got another 150 total of these LOST shirts in the gallery for purchase, in all sizes. They are designed by the amazing Olly Moss. The only way you can get one is by buying it in person, and we'll be open today until 6 PM and we'll be open Christmas Eve from 11 - 4 PM.

See you then?
