Capped

Alex Pardee just posted a recap and OVER 200 PHOTOS from the current G1988: LA exhibit, "Hiding From The Normals." It's definitely worth a looksy. I said "looksy."

You can check it all out by CLICKING HERE.

For those in, or around, LA, the show will be on display through October 29th, and we want to see you stop by! Don't worry, those flower paintings behind Alex and his friends....are not part of the art show.

Witty Joke Messing Party up With Pardee

Wow. Well, last night brough a whole new meaning to the term "art rock star." The line started at 5:30 outside the gallery and when we opened at 7, Alex Pardee signed and drew consistently for almost 4 hours. We have NEVER had that many people in the gallery for a solo show opening reception. And for good reason. Alex Pardee knocked it out of the park. You can now see the whole show at http://themarrowisreal.blogspot.com. And you SHOULD. And if you have the chance to stop by the gallery to see the entire installation, which includes almost 20 pages of text he's written about each character and the show's concept, a life size boar-headed mannequin woman and terribly incredible paper mache masks of Robocop, The Hamburgler, Spiderman and many others. You have to experience it first hand. I tell you.

Here are some pictures from last night's insanity, which includes many of the cosutmes, including the G1988: LA gang. Note where I stole some from, as that's being "Internet polite."

Check out Alex and friends before the show. Now I get that your eyes went directly to Alex, who is sporting an exact replication of Jordy Verrill from "Creepshow," but check out the guy on the far right. He's not only Batman, he's a replication of Alex's infamous painting of Batman...seen here:

That's an incredible costume.

Gallery manager Amber is KERRAZY.

all pics below from DailyDuJour.com

The whole G1988: LA crew. Our intern Michelle can take to the seas. I'm the bee girl from the Blind Melon video.

You get a slight feeling of the installation Alex created to tell the story in those pictures.

Kids WAITING semi-patiently at 6 PM.

The creepiest paper mache masks ever. These were a surprise to buyers, as we kept them off the preview or online, for $100 each.

The BIGGEST decal I have ever seen.

And her. Standing next to her painting.

Trick R Treat writer/director Michael Dougherty standing with Alex in front of said painting. Good luck finding the Trick R Treat Blu-Ray. Sold out everywhere and selling better than Up, Transformers 2 and other movies that don't scare the crap out of you.

This was what Alex felt for 4 hours straight.

And this is what we saw from the desk.

This is a night we won't soon forget. And neither will LA Weekly.

CLICK HERE for the whole story at LA Weekly.

Again, we're so proud and thankful for Alex Pardee. He really has went through such a journey during the past 6 years we've known him and this all couldn't have happened to a better dude. CONGRATS, sir. Thanks for taking us along for the ride.

Starting Up

1st thing - I genuinely hope a lot of people coming to Alex Pardee's solo show tonight are dressing up. And not just because I'll be dressed up. Also because Alex has dope gifts for the best boy and best girl in costume. Those people will be stoked they dressed up!

So, here we are. Ready for tonight. Make sure you stop by. The opening reception, with Alex in the gallery, is 7-10 PM. We will be starting Trick R Treat in the back of the gallery, up against the building (with sound) at around 8 PM. This whole thing is super worth hanging out.

Trick Treats

One more day until Alex Pardee's solo show here in Los Angeles and Alex is putting the final touches on his exhibit, "Hiding From The Normals." It's obvious that Alex was not only inspired by horror movies for this show, but also Disneyland, as he's created interactive environments and installations to help you fully enter the world he's depicting. It's almost like Alex wrote a movie, and we're walking into it.

Speaking of movies, we'll not only be celebrating Alex's expansive new exhibit, we'll also be partying for the DVD/Blu-Ray release of Trick R' Treat, a super scary movie from filmmaker Michael Dougherty. To commemorate the event, Alex, Michael and Gallery1988 teamed up for a super limited edition t-shirt depicting Sam, one of the main, and scariest, characters from the film. There are only about 100 of these made, so once we open on Tuesday night at 7 PM, we'll sell 'em until they're gone.

Pardee x Dougherty x G1988 = Only $25.

See you tomorrow night?

Workin On A Sunday

Usually working in the gallery on a Sunday sucks, BUT not every Sunday do you get hang out with Alex Pardee while he hangs a new show. It's totally insane. Alex is creating a "Disneyland-esque" atmosphere that is totally shrouded in secrecy. But he's allowed to us to post some work/words on the blog today, so maybe checking out art blogs on a Sunday isn't all that sucky either.

Who better to hear about this show from than Alex himself. Here's what he let us know last night...and some pics...

------

It's Sunday night. I just got to LA and am in a swanky little Ramada Inn above a diner called Whispers where it's either legal to still smoke inside, or the multiple-personalitied bowlers that took over the place just don't give a fuck. Either way, it's pretty rad. For the next 3 days I will be setting up and installing my largest, most focused solo art show that I have ever created.

The show is called "Hiding From The Normals" and it takes place at GALLERY 1988 in LA (on Melrose & La Brea). (Its all ages, free of charge).

I haven't said much about it, and unfortunately, i still don't WANT to say much about it, because I really really want you to be able to get a new experience if you are able to go check it out when it opens this Tuesday, October 6 @ 7pm.

However, with so much cool stuff going on in LA constantly, I would like to let you in on a little info and background surrounding the show, because it's a little different than my other shows, and there's A LOT to it.

Here's a few, short secrets that will hopefully get you excited about coming by to check out the show:

1. The entire show is based off of the beliefs of a man who recently went missing in real life. The man was a supposed crackpot and believes that there is another world living under ours filled with mutants. It is not known if this man is still alive or not.

2. In addition to creating paintings inspired by this missing man's beliefs, I have managed to get my hands on some actual evidence supporting the existence of this world. The evidence will be showcased alongside of the artwork.

3. I have recently become obsessed with this world that I jumped into, and I really hope that this showcase generates some interest in this universe called "The Marrow" so that this whole underworld can be expanded into something larger, like a film or an animated feature (hint, hint). So if you can't make it out to the show, but know anyone in the area, send them down!!

4. There will be BOTH a super limited PRINT release, as well as a limited CATALOG/BOOK release, called "Digging Up The Marrow: Excerpts from the Journals of William Dekker" Prints are signed and limited to 50. Books signed and limited to 200.

3. Because of the theme/inspiration and the time of the year, i am taking full advantage of October, which means that I am dressing up! And we are encouraging people to dress up in awesome costumes, both so I don't feel super stupid and outcast, AND because there is a cool prize for THE BEST COSTUME (judged by me). I think it would be cool to have 2 winners, a BEST GIRL & A BEST GUY, so let's do that. Come dressed up!!!!!

4. In conjunction with MY show, at G1988, right next store, at the same time, the insanely awesome writer/director Mike Dougherty is hosting his DVD release costume party for his new anthology horror film, "Trick R Treat" which is rad.i.cal. Also, as a little extra fun thing, I teamed up with Mike this week and drew up some Trick R Treat art that we are releasing at my show as a Limited shirt! (I think there's less than a hundred of them available)

5. This show is going to be my LAST solo show for over a year. I will be participating in a few group shows, but 2010 is going to be full of some different kind of adventures) Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, there were a few glimpses of the work from the show. But trust me, you need to come see it in person. Myself, Dave Correia, Paul Bustamante, Damon Alcorn, and Jensen & The Gallery 1988 crew have worked really hard to put together a show that pictures just won't do justice to. But nonetheless, I will take a ton of photos and try to share them with ya soon! Word.
------------

Going to be epic. I just heard one of Alex's friends say "If you want, we can cut off her feet, cause the dirt will be under her" and I have NO IDEA what they are talking about. All very, very cool.

Tomorrow we'll reveal the Trick R Treat Pardee shirt here FIRST! Be on the lookout. It'll be a Monday, so that's probably better for both of us.

Luke's Last

Here we are. The last day of Luke Chueh's Inferno. Tons of people have been walking through, and we want to thank Luke for creating such an extensive and progressive show. We've loved growing with him since 2004 and this show was no exception!

For the last two days, we've had some super secret filming going on in the gallery which included Brandi Milne, Dabs & Myla and eight hours of no break live painting. Sounds like a scene from the movie Saw, but it was a pretty awesome experience. I'll let you know, when I know more about when/where you can see it.

So now we make way for Alex Pardee's insane Halloween visions, which will open this coming Tuesday, with an opening reception from 7-11 PM. Alex will be arriving into LA tomorrow and will be in attendance all night Tuesday (this time no homeless cutting dudes invited! Google away, if you don't know that Pardee story!) We've all been very secret about Alex's new work, so here's your first, and possibly only, preview...

This is one of Alex's new demented characters he created for a painting, which will all tie together with a story and tale he created specifically for this show. I'm a bit scared. This show is going to be epic.

And today marks a pretty important day for Crazy4Cult fans who have been waiting patiently for the second coming of Jeff Boyes' Professional print. We have the second edition, now with new colors, as an edition of 33.

Jeff Boyes
"The Professional (Blue)"
4 color screen print on archival paper, signed and numbered edition of 33

OCTOBER 6th - MARK IT DOWN NOW!

The other night Alex Pardee gave his audience on Twitter (follow him - @alexpardee) a bit of a surprise, which was our first viewing of what his upcoming G1988: LA solo show is shaping up to be. And this was it -

"Hiding From The Normals" will be Alex's 1st solo show here at Gallery1988: LA (follow us on twitter - @jensenclan88) on October 6th and it is shaping up to be our biggest event of 2009. The Halloween themed show has tons of surprises in store (some include original music being produced by your favorite underground rappers and what is going to be, his words, "the biggest and most epic show of his career").

And for the opening reception on October 6th, not only will we be celebrating Alex's new body of work, we'll be celebrating Halloween a bit early, as everyone is encouraged to dress up in costume and be as scary as possible (you may even get a prize if Alex digs your threads). Cause the same night, next door at Golden Apple Comics, we'll be sponsoring the DVD/Blu-Ray release of "Trick R Treat," an INCREDIBLY scary movie from director Michael Dougherty finally seeing the light of day (how this movie got the shaft for marketing/distribution I have NO IDEA, and neither do most movie sites)! Michael, cast and crew will signing DVDs and Blu-Rays. And after you see the trailer below, I PROMISE you'll want to know more.

AND, Alex is going to have a nice little surprise to tie into the movie, cause "Trick R Treat" will be screened in our back lot that night as well. It's all pretty creepy. And awesome.

Mark your calendars now, and get your costumes ready. It's art's Halloween party with Alex Pardee and you are invited.
