Happy Camper

I couldn't be more happy with the images I've recently received of work from our next SF show. It's the movie poster show where each artist was given a poster to use as their canvas (the sister show to "Cover Band" last year in LA). And I was freaking out a little, so to say I'm pleasantly surprised is an understatement. And, it's not that I didn't have faith in the artists, it's because we gave them a pretty crazy project to work on, so we didn't really know what the outcome would be. First off, the posters are HUGE, each approx. 27 x 40 inches, and then they're thin, glossy paper stock, so the medium itself is a challenge to work with. And then lastly, we got to choose which poster went to each artist, so it was a total surprise when they arrived in the mail. So, we gave these artists quite a challenge, but definitely a fun one!

I was getting a bit nervous because we sent out the posters a while ago and I wasn't hearing anything from any of the artists until a few days ago! But finally, we started to get some of the finished pics back and they are AMAZING!! The whole point of the show is to collaborate with the existing poster image, so here are a few for you to see...

I love these shows because everyone takes a different approach and it's really fun to see what everyone did. We also started a blog specifically for this show, where the artists can post progress pics and talk about their pieces. You can also see the entire show lineup, so definitely check it out... http://1988movieposters.blogspot.com/

Stay tuned cause this is going to be a really fun show! It opens on September 18th at G1988 San Francisco!

Last night...

Yeah, so I wasn't able to take any pictures, cause we never really stopped working last night to take one. But am hoping some good pictures start to pop up on the interwebs today that I can show off. Especially of 2cents in-gallery installation. It was one of our print surprises, but 2cents did it again, after last year's incredibly successful portraits (CLICK HERE to see those). This year he picked famous cult objects. Each of these prints are limited to 40 (we're close to selling out on some and have to start the day with some serious inventory counting), are signed and numbered and are just $25 each. But here they are...

The Bike

The Trap

The Lips

The Hearse

The Button

The Stapler

Thanks to these prints and around 1,000 attendees, this year's Crazy 4 Cult first night was one of our most successful opening receptions EVER. It was awesome to see people still buying art that speaks to them, even though economic times aren't what they were for Crazy 4 Cult in 2008.

You can now sell ALL the artwork, and see what's still available, by CLICKING HERE.

We want to thank every artist who participated in this year's show, as probably about 100 people came up to us at some point last night and commented on how everyone REALLY stepped it up this year. When another now-mangled theme show hit it's third year, we sat back and watched as artists admitted they were out of ideas and thought the concept became stale. With Crazy 4 Cult 3-D, it proved this show just gets better and better - and we only have the artists to thank for that. This had the best artwork delivered yet. THANK YOU all so much.

Also big thanks to Kevin Smith (a co-creator of this art show), who's spirit we felt in the gallery, although he was shooting a film in NY, our friends at SlashFIlm.com, KROQ's Kevin, Bean and Ralph Garman and comedian Paul Scheer, along with the many others who promoted (and twittered their brains off about) the show all day with us!

Here's to Crazy FOUR Cult in 2010.

His 2cents

It's sort of a work from home day for both Katie in Sf and me in LA...so lots of stuff that needed to get done...will get done. Always a nice change.

But over on Melrose today, I might not be repping the Avenue, but the Gallery1988 helping hand is. This time in a whole different venue on the corner of Crescent Heights and Melrose at the legendary, landmark boutique, Ron Herman at Fred Segal. LA street artist and G1988 frequenter 2cents has teamed up with the designer to create limited edition exclusive hoodie sweatshirts that are SO INCREDIBLE.

Click the below image to see all the options and order from RonHerman.com...

And here's a peek at one of them...

We were honored to work with Ron Herman and RonHerman.com on such a fun project, and these sweatshirts really did turn out just as perfect as we hoped...so make sure to pick one (or two) up for the Winter season. They are available exclusively at RonHerman.com and at all Ron Herman stores, which include Malibu, Brentwood, Beverly Hills and the Melrose Fred Segal location, where there is also a nice little installation of 2cents artwork.

Game Over

One of the coolest installations in our gallery's history from LA artist 2cents was created today for the Crazy 4 Cult 2 show...

It gets no better.

And for those who are working endlessly on naming all of the cult characters in Andrew Wilson's poster...you can put away the magnifying glass (at least the real one), as Andrew and pals have created an amazing website (and virtual magnifying glass) that allows you to get up close and personal with each icon. And use the key glass on the right side to see the corresponding number of each as well, helping you out one by one. YOU CAN SEE THIS SITE BY CLICKING HERE. Good job, guys!

Not enough cool shit? Well, then feast your eyes on the very first Cable Guy inspired piece by Ken Garduno.

OK, that's just too much.

Drive by the gallery and check out the outside installation! So you know, we won't be following normal gallery hours starting Tuesday and going right up to the opening on the 22nd, so make sure to call before you come down, or go ahead and just email us with any orders, questions or concerns. And if you're an artist dropping off or shipping work, don't worry - that's all worked out, so just come on down or put those stamps on your shipment. It's all good.
