Man of Steele

It's about that time again... we're starting to prepare for our next show at Gallery1988: Venice, which features Australian artist Michael Steele! Best know for his "Cluster" series, you may remember Steele's Back to the Future inspired piece from last year's Crazy 4 Cult:

"Where we're going, we don't need roads" inspired by Back to the Future

Now Michael has the entire Venice gallery at his disposal, so be prepared for new clusters with themes ranging from Star Wars to Ghostbusters. Here are a few sneak previews for you lucky blog readers...

The show opens Friday, April 8th at Gallery1988: Venice and we'll also have a few new prints available at the show. Stay tuned for more info.

Artists Help Japan

I want to share this emergency fund for Japan with everyone. The fund is called Artists Help Japan and is partnered with Give2Asia, which is a local team based in Japan. The donated funds will go to the survivors and their needs in this time of crisis. So, if you want to donate money, but are skeptical that your donation will actually benefit the survivors directly, this is a good option. The fund was created by Dice Tsutsumi, an art director from Pixar, who also organized the Totoro Forest Project back in 2008 to save the Sayama Forest in Japan. Again, this is a great way to donate funds to Japan and be confident that your money is going to benefit the people in need.

Inle Video

Our friend, Daniel Ybarra, just sent us some GREAT footage from the Inle opening. If you weren't able to see the show in person, this is the next best thing. The artwork looks amazing and there's also an interview with the show curator, Greg 'Craola' Simkins. And if you were at the opening definitely check out this video cause you might be in it!

Big thanks to Daniel for putting this video together!

With Glee

Our final PaleyFest2011 Honors poster was revealed today over at /Film - and we're really excited about it.

It's Glee, as seen by artist Tom Whalen! This one is obviously gonna be a hot ticket item, so you'll get your first chance to pick it up at the Saban Theater on Wednesday, March 16th, at the Glee panel and Q&A.

It's been a honor working with the Paley Center on these posters, and just wait until you see what else we have up our sleeves!

Stay tuned to this blog for the link to purchase and we'll be revealing our final PaleyFest2011 poster, Glee by Tom Whalen Monday!

Saturday Night With Ken

UPDATE: We've added prints to the INLE online store.

Daniel Danger - CLICK HERE.

Mike Mitchell - CLICK HERE or CLICK HERE.

Greg Simkins - CLICK HERE.

What a show last night! Not even for Crazy 4 Cult do we have a line that goes down the block even at 10 PM! This really was the first exhibit ever where we had to extend the show, and cut the line off. Thank you to everyone who came out and the insane amount of artists who both attended and participated. This is a show that won't be forgotten for quite some time. Proof? iPhone trivia app "Qrank," ran this today!

PRETTY AWESOME. We're open all weekend at Melrose, 11-6 PM, come by and see it now without so many people blocking your view.

After last night's crazy INLE ride, we're at it again. And we would be tired, EXCEPT Ken Keirn's solo exhibit, "Alone With Ghosts," is hard not to be excited about. It opens tonight at our Venice location and it's already off to quite a good start with sales. You can see, and purchase, the artwork from both Ken's show opening tonight and last night's INLE explosion, by CLICKING HERE.

And here's some previews in case your fingers are too tired to click there.

Oh, AND ALSO, we'll be back at the Saban Theater tonight, for the SOLD OUT Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared Reunion panel/Q & A, selling the amazing Phantom City Creative poster for the event.

This is our second to last night at Paley, with the last one being Glee on the 16th.

SEE YOU TONIGHT AT VENICE? (We don't stop).

InWait

We are just hours away from what will be a classic Los Angeles group show - "INLE," curated by Greg "Craola" Simkins. I like Twitter a lot (too much if we're being technical), so I'll let it speak for itself. (NSFW)

I have some lightbulbs to replace, so I'll make this quick.

There is a canvas print of Greg's piece, and it will be made available at the opening, starting at 7 PM. Then tomorrow, they will go online. It's AWESOME.

And here are your final looks in...

One of my fav artists in the world...Jeff Soto...

Fred Harper continues to amaze me.

I'll be honest, Carrie Ann Baade is new to me, but this piece is stunning that I'm in the know now.

Anyway, lightbulbs. Bye and see you tonight!

Ley

We're only a few days away from the what will be the epic grand opening of Greg Simkins' curated show, "INLE" on March 11th. The show is unbelievable! The reception will run 7-10 PM, is free to the public and will have a ton of the artists in attendance.

So why not give you 3 more peeks into INLE????

Kris Lewis's piece is astonishingly good. To be honest, I don't think I've even seen Kris's work in person, and now that I have, I am a HUGE fan. I know it's a term painfully overused in our field, but it is surreal. I can't wait for people to see this in person.

Bob Dob returns to the walls of G1988 with a really fun piece, mashing up Watership Down and the vibe of everyone's favorite mouse.

G1988 favorite Roland Tamayo delivers another stunner. He can say so much, by depicting so little. Truly one of a kind. He recently did the artwork for singer Patrick Stump's new EP, but we;ll talk about that next week.

We better see you Friday at this point.

Paley Feast

First up, the DKNG Studios True Blood poster is now online is VERY limited numbers...

These are $35 each, limited to 250, signed & numbered and most importantly, AVAILABLE BY CLICKING HERE.

And let's debut a bunch of the remaining posters!

On March 9th, PaleyFest honors Parks & Recreation, a sitcom with an amazing fan base and equally impressive cast. For this poster we went to arguably the top pop culture poster artist around, Sir Mike Mitchell. Mike is a huge fan of the show and that shows in his creation. Ladies and gentlemen...

First time you can get the Parks & Rec poster will be at the Saban Theater on March 9th for their panel (and there are still tickets available to attend, CLICK HERE FOR THOSE!). If there are any left, you'll be able to pick them up at gallery1988.com.

On March 10th, Paleyfest pays tribute to one of my favorite shows, and characters, with Eastbound & Down. There are very few characters on TV as dynamic as Kenny Powers, so we wanted to make sure the poster captured that magic. And it DOES! Artist Derek Deal throws a perfect strike, and I know this one is going to be a PaleyFest fav...

Same as Parks & Rec, this will be first be available at the event on March 10th. Tickets are still available for the night (with Danny McBride, Stevie AND Will Ferrell scheduled to appear. CLICK HERE FOR THOSE!). And if they last, online the next day.

And...our friends at Slashfilm have debuted the Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared reunion poster by G1988 newcomers Phantom City Creative. On March 12th, the PaleyFest peeps did the unthinkable and got basically the entire casts of both show to reunite on one stage, and we got to do the poster! And its absolutely stunning.

Wanna see the whole poster? CLICK HERE.

Incredible, right? Unfortunately, that night is sold out, but if any remain they'll be online 0 just like the True Blood one above (although any of these might not last long).

We have only one poster to unveil left, and that's Glee by Tom Whalen. It's so good too! And we know how rabid their fans are. Look for that poster near the end of the week here on this blog.

More INLE blog debuts...

It's the week of Greg Simkins' INLE group show and I'm not sure we've ever had this vast amount of incredible pieces in our gallery before. It's epic.

The show opens March 11th, with an opening reception from 7-10 PM, at our Melrose location. A LOT of the artists, including Greg, will be in attendance. We will also be releasing a limited edition canvas print of Greg's beautiful Watership Down inspired piece, but more on that this week, cause they are SUPER limited.

Let's parade out some gems...

Gris Grimly has shown at G1988 once before and we're stoked to have the legend back on the wall.

Here's the debut of a piece A LOT of people have been emailing us about: a beauty from Chet Zar. It's a big one too. Can not wait for you guys to see this in person.

I really won't go into a long explanation about this Daniel Danger print created specifically for the INLE show, because I know what it will mean: more emails from people asking if they can buy it before the show opens. Which you can't. It will be released at the opening reception and then we can talk more about it one-on-one. But for now, I'm hiding about this one.

Awesome art team, and close friend of Greg's, DabsMyla take on Watership Down in their signature style. Love seeing new pieces from DabsMyla and am happy they'll be hanging out at the opening reception.

So, see you on March 11th?

Your reports are stupid.

UPDATE: These are sold out, so this post seems a bit moot. Also, get ready for Parks & Rec and Eastbound & Down poster reveals on Monday!

Alright, so someone came into the gallery and said that because we posted a warning about damage during shipping, that "lots" of the Daniel Danger prints are "damaged" by reports. This couldn't be further from the truth.

There were about 6 or 7, of the 200 we have, with "damage," that in reality only bothered the two dudes who probably started the rage. These guys bought 2 or 3 at the PaleyFest, obviously looking to sell (so get mad at them when it sells out and the prices are $150 on eBay, it's easy to track now). These were on the top of the pile, everything below looked perfect. People who bought the prints at PaleyFest were actually fans of the TV show (GO FIGURE!), so they weren't quite as buggy about the small damage. They were thankful. Those are now in their hands.

The ones we have currently are in mint condition. Keep in mind, it's a black print. If you've seen some of our black print sales in the past, we've put warnings (especially in Daniel Danger cases). If you hold these things too long, a smaller than a penny mark could be seen. It's just a warning that these are fragile. Cause they are. We've also had warnings posted about prints coming to us fully dinged, and explain that they are now available at a lower price because of it (as recent as the John Hughes show).

Much like Charlie Sheen, the rumor got a little out of control. We have 15 left at this moment, so it'll be sold out pretty soon (although I'll have about 5 at tonight's True Blood event). Once everyone gets them in the mail, and they look REALLY pretty, this will all feel very lame. Until then, let's hold hands.

Not just in line, ONLINE

Last night was the first night of the 2011 PaleyFest Honors and we started selling the first screenprint poster from the series we curated for the festival, Daniel Danger for The Walking Dead. It was such a hit, Frank Darabont even bought one!

PaleyFest2011 Honors The Walking Dead
by Daniel Danger
edition of 250, numbered
12 x 24 inches
$35.00

We held some back and have made some of these prints available! YOU CAN PURCHASE THEM BY CLICKING HERE.

And tonight, at the Saban Theater on Wilshire Blvd., we release the second print, DKNG Studios for True Blood.

And remember, we still have Mike Mitchell for Parks & Rec (3/9), Derek Deal for Eastbound & Down (3/10), Phantom City Creative for Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared (3/12) and Tom Whalen for Glee (3/16)!!!

Small note: Last night, the Saban Theater security was nice to enough to let some people in that didn't have tickets, just to buy posters. That was awesome, but totally above and beyond my control. I don't know if they're going to keep doing that (especially as tonight's panel SOLD OUT), but it's worth knowing.

Fun times.

PALEYFEST 2011 POSTERS

Proud to announce that we were involved in this year's PaleyFest Honors, a yearly festival that celebrates television's rich and diverse programming and the creative process behind the medium for the last twenty-seven years. Each year they pick a group of shows to honor, and then the cast and crew participate in a panel and Q&A. It's pretty amazing.

We were asked this year to curate limited edition silkscreen posters to commemorate the nights' events. We will selling posters for the PaleyFest Honors for the Walking Dead (3/4), True Blood (3/5), Parks & Recreation (3/9), Eastbound & Down (3/10), Freaks & Geeks/Undeclared (3/11) and Glee (3/16).

YOU CAN STILL BUY TICKETS TO THE PALEYFEST NIGHTS BY CLICKING HERE.

First up are posters for Walking Dead (BY DANIEL FREAKING DANGER) and True Blood (BY DKNG STUDIOS).

Get ready for posters from Mike Mitchell, Derek Deal, Phantom City and Tom Whalen!!!! We'll be debuting them here on the blog as the events get closer!

Washington Post!

Jen Chaney from the Washington Post was in town last week for the Oscars and stopped by our Venice location to check out our John Hughes exhibit! I want to give a huge THANK YOU to Jen for coming all the way to Venice to cover the show! You can check out the article here, which includes a short video and is a cool way to see some of the pieces in the show if you can't make it in person.

http://voices.washingtonpost.com/celebritology/2011/03/john_hughes_and_the_art_his_mo.html

The show ends this Friday, so this is the last week to check out amazing artwork inspired by John Hughes and his many incredible movies, including Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, Planes, Trains & Automobiles, The Breakfast Club, and the list goes on and on...

Come see the show if you're in the LA area before it's gone forever!
