It's about that time again... we're starting to prepare for our next show at Gallery1988: Venice, which features Australian artist Michael Steele! Best know for his "Cluster" series, you may remember Steele's Back to the Future inspired piece from last year's Crazy 4 Cult:


"Where we're going, we don't need roads" inspired by Back to the Future

Now Michael has the entire Venice gallery at his disposal, so be prepared for new clusters with themes ranging from Star Wars to Ghostbusters. Here are a few sneak previews for you lucky blog readers...

Stalking Cult

It's almost that time of Summer, the moment in our exhibition calendar that will house our annual group exhibit, Crazy 4 Cult, now in it's 4th year, is almost upon us. Opening on July 9th, Friday night, at Gallery1988: Los Angeles, this year's installment is once again hosted by our cult filmmaking friends Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier (Clerks, Mallrats, Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) and this year is truly shaping up to be our best year yet! Figured no time is too early to let you in on a preview of what is always our most heralded exhibit.



Michael Steele creates a Cluster that will take you Back To The Future 2. LOVE this piece....LOVE this movie.



Alessandra Fussi works off pure imagination and gives you her beautiful spin on Willy Wonka.



Allison Sommers channels the Bud Cort in all of us, and "Harold And Maude."

Check out artist Michael Steele's new shirt for Pete Wentz's clothing line, Clandestine Industries, which is a label I've run and designed for the past two collections. This new collection, "Your Name In Neon," dropped just May 1st, and included designs from G1988 regulars like Steele, Sean Clarity and Andrew Wilson. I have been soooo excited for quite some time to announce that Gallery1988 is now officially selling some of Australian artist Michael Steele's work. We just got the paintings in from Michael (BEST packing job ever P.S.) and they are incredible. These pieces are priced so well, and they are so stunning in person, I can't imagine they'll last long. Steele's "Cluster" paintings, which are what he calls the series from which the two available paintings are from, were recently featured on Juxtapoz.com and NotCot.org. I can't wait to see more from Michael, which you will be seeing here at G1988. It's hard for me to undersell these. They are stunning and so much of what I like from our genre of art all in one. I see new things every time I look at them, and the intricate use of oil, enamel and acrylic makes for such a strong effect (almost like a collage), especially hanging on a wall. This is an artist to seriously watch, especially at these prices.
