NEW YEAR, NEW COMEDIANS

Our pals over at FunnyOrDie.com have debuted two new paintings that will be featured in "Is This Thing On?" which opens January 7th at G1988 (Melrose). These two are absolutely incredible....

NC Winters takes a shot at Bill Murray, as his classic Caddyshack character, and succeeds amazingly. nananananananana.

Kirk Demarais revisits his epic portrait series, now depicting the Human Giant comedy team of Rob Huebell, Aziz Ansari and Paul Scheer. Some brought more clothing to party than others.

Again, do not forget about this show. It opens January 7th, with an opening reception from 7-11 PM. Look for more surprises this week, and the night of the opening!

PRINTS PRINTS PRINTS (from us)

One thing that this year's Crazy 4 Cult installment has over the prior years is PRINTS. We have never in our 5 year history had as many prints available as we will for this exhibit. Arguably, this might have more prints than any of our other group shows combined.

Figured today would be a good day to unveil a fraction of these prints, at least those made by G1988 printing. These are the digital giclee prints we did in-house, with our own process and on our own printers (which is how about 70% - 80% of the prints we sell here are created).

Kirk Demarais
"The Torrances" (from Crazy 4 Cult 2)
giclee print on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 50
$65.00

Possibly the most anticipated of the prints, Kirk brings back his Sears-like portrait of the Shining family. I know a few people buying multiples of this one.

Scott Campbell
"Cult Tree" (from Crazy 4 Cult 2)
giclee print on archival paper
12 x 18 inches
edition of 35
$100.00

One of last year's most popular pieces was made into a Crazy 4 Cult 2 poster at the time, and that had all the show's text, logos and information on it. It's got dozens of your favorite cult characters done in Scott's signature style, all just hanging in a tree. This year we bring you a super limited version, now on archival watercolor paper, without any of the bells and whistles, just the straight image. This came out beautiful.

Scott Campbell
"Showdowns (Set 3)" (from Crazy 4 Cult 2)
giclee prints on archival paper
about 5 x 5 inches each
edition of 50 sets
$65.00 per set

You know how fast these sets have sold out in the past. We've got a new set, not printing half of last year's showdowns from Scott Campbell. Depicting classic duels from Teen Wolf, Taxi Driver, Princess Bride, Deliverance and Blade Runner - these won't last long. And just wait until you see the new original showdown Scott put in "Crazy 4 Cult 3-D."

Erica Gibson
"Fargo" (from Crazy 4 Cult 2)
giclee print on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 25
$45.00

The woodchipper! One of my personal favs from Crazy 4 Cult 2, Erica Gibson (who was an OTIS student at the time, part of our first Art Show program with them) knocked it out of the park with this one. Now available as a print, not to mention her first!

Julian Callos
"Class Dismissed" (from Crazy 4 Cult 2)
giclee print on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 25
$50.00

Our first ever Battle Royale piece from another OTIS exchange member, Julian Callos, now becomes a print. I'm a HUGE fan of the movie, so maybe it was me who made sure this was made into a print, but also tons of people come into the gallery and talk about how much they loved this piece. And since, Julian has grown into one of our absolute favorite artists here at 1988, so it's nice to remember, and hang, the first time we saw him.

Nathan Stapley
"Founding Members Of The SICTT (Society of In Control Time Travelers)" (from CRAZY 4 CULT 3-D!)
giclee print on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 25
$50.00

A brand new Crazy 4 Cult piece available as a print! This one from NY resident artist Nathan Stapley. A club picture of cult movies' best time travelers, presumably at a meeting I wish I could've went to. The original to this piece will also be available at the show! LOVE this one.

And this is less than half of the prints available in the show!

Like I said, I'll be updating all day, so stay tuned...

Sticking Around

A small surprise for those still working, rather than ducking out way too early for a "Holiday weekend." A look at one of Scott Campbell's new Movie Showdowns...

...and a look into what is easily one of our most anticipated Crazy4Cult prints. This will be available on July 16th, when the 3rd installment of the show opens.

LA and SF galleries will be open tomorrow regular hours, but we will both be closed on July 4th.

You need ART to spell party.

We're still fending off an average of 50 customers in the gallery at a time today and actually made a Saturday record with 78 people in the gallery at one time. Michael Rappaport even brought in his kid's whole basketball team. So, not much time for serious blogging sessions, but our friends over at OldManMusings.com posted some pics, and we're happy to steal some. Make sure to CLICK HERE to see more of the pics over at Old Man Musings for yourself.

Crowd shot. You can see our sweet little announcement for the 2009 show up above the window.

Desk Shot. Working hard as LL Cool J on Unplugged, but with a Monster Factory Walter right in front of me.

G4 Genius (of all things including MMA!) Blair Butler and PlasticGod.

Stand By Me and Star Trek star, and one of the subjects of Dave MacDowell's piece "Stand By Snooch," Wil Wheaton poses near the sold painting. Wil was an incredibly nice dude. Hoping to see more of him around 1988.

Mr. Brandon Bird near his sold piece.

Misha near her sold piece. With Blair.

Danielle Rizzolo x VIMBY (cough, sold piece, cough)

Kirk Demaris's first gallery pieces ever = SUCCESS! (you get it)

Who better to celebrate with then Mr. Toast, Dan Goodsell.

Worst/Best/Worst Best picture of Andrew Wilson near his Craz y 4 Cult poster. Sorry, dude.

Anyway, that's all I got in me. I'm on 4 hours sleep for 2 days. Remember, Crazy4Cult.com has everything now, including all the artwork and prints and posters, some available with just a click from PayPal.
