Just some quick programming notes...
The San Francisco Gallery is now closed as we transition the gallery's new location in Venice Beach, which will open on Jan. 15th. Just letting you know.
The Melrose location will be open Christmas Eve, from 11-3 PM. So if you need a last minute gift...we're here. But after that, we'll be closed until Jan. 7th, the night we open "Is This Thing On?" with FunnyOrDie.com.
We debuted two new pieces over at FunnyOrDie yesterday, did you see them?
Josh Cooley, making his G1988 debut, gives us his Golden Book spin on the Steve Martin's classic "The Jerk." Wait till you see how he framed one of them too.
Misha takes on a genius we lost way too early, Greg Giraldo. Love this piece too, as it gets across the gentle aspects to a man who could roast with the best ever.
CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS SHOW. Starting the new year off with a bang.

G1988 (Melrose)
Saturday night, the upcoming Paramount Picture release "The Fighter" was screened for a completely packed house of over 700 people at the nearby Regency Theater, all in partnership with Gallery1988. And after the film, the afterparty was held at &Still, sportswear boutique on La Brea. The whole evening was incredible, as art inspired by the life of boxer Mikey Ward (the subject of "The Fighter" was on display for everyone to see. Work from Greg Simkins, DabsMyla, Brandi Milne, Peek-A-Boo, Silent Giants, Billy Perkins, Alan Hynes, Adam Hanson and Darren LeGallo was on display. While t-shirts by No Mas, &Still and Munk One were also available. Director David O. Russell and actress Amy Adams hung out, and thanks to Red Bull, Asahi Beer and Waialua Soda for the bar! Work from the afterparty will be available on our website, gallery1988.com, later tonight. Considering the $15 t-shirts and $10 prints are being sold for less than they cost to make, we suggest jumping on something that might catch your eye.

The Fighter!
We couldn't be more excited to be working with Paramount Pictures and director David O. Russell on a screening and art event this Saturday, December 4th in Los Angeles! And all of you are invited. Join us on Saturday night, December 4th at 6 PM at the Regent Theater at 614 N. La Brea for a free screening of the film, "The Fighter," which tells the tale of Boston boxer Micky and the whispers for a Best Picture nomination are rather loud. Which is awesome. And you'll be hanging with people from the movie, so you can't really lose there. That's at 6 PM.
Then after the movie's screening, join us down the street at "&Still," for "Blood, Sweat and Art: An Artistic Celebration of "Irish" Micky Ward" (114 S. La Brea). There will be limited edition screen prints, limited edition t-shirts and customized boxing gloves. And look at the artist roster! Some amazing names in there! There will be beer, soda and snacks and it's 21 and over. So, keep that in mind.
Anyway, all you have to do to attend is RSVP at http://www.thefightermovie.com/rsvp.
Drinks will be from our friends at Asahi beer and Waialua Sodas.
This will be a DO NOT MISS event.
And tomorrow, we'll dig deep into our next show, opening Thursday night, from artist Travis Louie at G1988 (Melrose).

PRINTS! THANKFUL!
On top of our insane sale on almost everything and our clothing release on Black Friday, we will also be releasing a handful of new prints, in what I believe is the best group we've ever unleashed in one day. It's actually quite brilliant.
Here's a rundown of all the new hand-signed and numbered giclee archival prints we're releasing Friday, both in store and on the website.
Luke Chueh
"Coned"
giclee print on archival paper
16 x 16 inches
edition of 75, hand signed and numbered
Our first new Luke Chueh print in some time, this one is adorably painful. A must have, obviously.
Andrew DeGraff
"In Pursuit of Willy"
giclee print on archival paper
15 x 15 inches
edition of 35, hand signed and numbered
A favorite from the last Crazy 4 Cult show, the Goonies map is so awesome and a promise to have every guest think you're the dopest human ever. ONLY 35!!!!
Scott Campbell
"The Showdown (Set #5)"
giclee prints on archival paper (set includes all 5 prints)
4 3/4 x 4 3/4 inches each
edition of 100 sets
$65.00
Another "Showdown" set from Scott Campbell. As always is the case, these will sell out and they come as a set. Don't hesitate, cause these releases always bring the most disappointed emails about a sell out. You've been warned.
Stella Hultberg
"Mathilda"
giclee print on archival paper
9 x 15 inches
edition of 100, signed and numbered
Daunting, incredible piece from Stella. Another one from 2010's Crazy 4 Cult, inspired by Matilda from "The Professional." LOVE this one.
Ayami Kawashima
"Don't Erase Me"
giclee print on archival paper
16 x 20 inches
edition of 25, hand signed and numbered
I'm planning a much larger blog post about Ayami after the holiday (which is about so much more than that), but until then enjoy this new, very limited print, which is stunning in person. An easy gift for someone on your list. And only 25 exist of this "Eternal Sunshine" inspired piece.
Chris Sanchez
"REDRUM"
giclee pront on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 35, signed and numbered
Chris Sanchez
"Come Out And Play"
giclee print on archival paper
11 x 14 inches
edition of 35, hand signed and numbered
Two of my favorite pieces from Crazy 4 Cult 4 were by the same person, Chris Sanchez. Here are prints of those pieces and a must have for an fan of cinema. The Shining and Warriors are two of my most beloved films, so I know I'll be hanging these up myself.
So to say we're "doing things" at G1988 on Black Friday would be a bit of an understatement. In addition to all this stuff, we'll also be putting a few very special prints online that day. You'll see Artist Proofs of prints that have sold out years ago (that you've always wanted), so don't sleep on that. Also, we found a few more orphaned prints (Luke Chueh, Eric Tan, Brandon Schaefer, Alex Pardee, Krista Huot, Billy Perkins, etc) in the back, so you might see some prints you thought you'd never see for sale again. AND if you stop by either the SF or LA gallery, you'll find surprise sales that we can't even publicize here. And those are AWESOME.
Yup, there's a lot of stuff to be thankful for, and hopefully you can take advantage!

Notice This Too!
With the upcoming Black Friday - December sale and the upcoming release of our first clothing collection, GK1988, you would think we couldn't humanly be readying an amazing show at Gallery1988 (Melrose) at the same time? Can we? Seems like too much for one to handle, right?
Well, you'd be wrong. Cause we're opening one of the year's most anticipated solo shows, right before the end of the year on December 2nd with Travis Louie's "The Ghost of Delilah and Other Stories." This show is going to blow your mind, especially since Travis, for the first time ever, will be collaborating with a group of artists for this exhibit. Most of that is still under wraps, but I was excited to see these two pictures in my inbox today.
As soon as I know more, so will you. But mark your calendars for this show - DECEMBER 2ND!

NEXT and new hours....
We're proud to announce our new show at G1988 (Melrose) (new name to make way for G1988 Venice, ya'll!). It's a solo show with the one and only Travis Louie. You may know him from the book we published of his work last year, "Curiosities," or you just may know him from being totally awesome. Either way, you'll have to come to his new show opening December 2nd, "The Ghost of Delilah and Other Stories," which will be his first solo at G1988.
More on Travis's show to come...
AND A SCHEDULING NOTE: Our gallery hours at Melrose will now be Wednesday - Sunday, 11 - 6 PM and we will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays. So you'll have all weekend to come check out the gallery now.

SEND EM IN.
For the first time in our 6 1/2 year history, Gallery1988 is openly calling for submissions. It's SUBMISSION SEASON! We have some amazing group shows (of the themed, high profile variety) coming up in 2011, and we know it's time to reach out and find some new talent out there. Here are some important notes for you...
We're looking for 3-4 jpegs or a link to a website via email to gallery1988@aol.com
Please make the subject of your email "Submissions"
We will be UNABLE TO RESPOND to all submissions (cause that would be hard), but will contact you within 2 weeks if we see an opening for your work.
We do not supply artists with what "themes" we're looking for, because we select artists based off their usual work and themes - so that's awesome.
And that's it. We're open and ready, guys, so send us your best work and let's get your work seen in G1988.
