Our homeboy Johnny Cupcakes stopped by the Venice gallery for the Pee-Wee Herman Tribute opening reception and took some pretty great photos of the art, the patrons and Speed Racer. Click the photo above to check it out.
We have a added a few more Pee-Wee pieces to the site!
Dan Goodsell "Mr. Toast Pee-Wee & Friends #1"
The Dan Goodsell watercolors were available in-store when the show opened, and we've finally scanned them all and added them to the website for online purchase. Also, we've added Ryan Brinkerhoff's "Tequila" prints, which missed the opening reception because of a small shipping delay, but they've arrived and look amazing!

The new work is available on our website at the following links...
This Friday at G1988 (Melrose) we're excited to unveil brand new works from artists Dan McCarthy & Jay Ryan...
Dan & Jay will be debuting new screenprints and paintings, and will both be in attendance! We know how highly anticipated this exhibit is, and they have definitely delivered some incredible works! This show will run through August 27th.
Also, after opening the Pee-Wee Herman tribute last Friday at G1988 (Venice), we were happy to see coverage from Los Angeles magazine (click the pictures to see the articles)...
The Onion...
and LAist...
And we got a call from the man himself, Paul Reubens, which was literally one of the most exciting moments of my life. He wanted to thank us, the artists involved and everyone who was excited about the art show and was insanely humbled by the admiration. He unfortunately couldn't make opening night, but will be in to see the works in person soon. He may even take some pictures, they'll last longer.
UPDATE: A tough weekend for the website, so we're back up and running and everything is viewable, and available for purchase. Sorry for any inconvenience, but we've been working that site pretty hard. I think it just needed a spa weekend.
The Pee-Wee artwork is now online! We have the originals and prints up on our website, which you can see at the following links:
As we enter the last few days of Cult, we were happy to see coverage from our homies over at Electric Playground...
And in just a few minutes, we'll open "I Know You Art, But What Am I?" at the Venice location, celebrating comedic icon, and 22-time Emmy winner, Pee-Wee Herman. We're so excited to be doing this show, and to have the blessing of Pee-Wee himself!!!! ARGHHHH!
And we've gotten some great coverage too! Click the pictures to read the full articles and check out the preview pics...
And our friends at SlashFilm got into the mix too...
Stay tunes for more press, and you can see, and purchase, all the prints and originals starting tomorrow on our website, but we'll announce it here as well!
This week is Pee-Wee Herman week at Gallery1988 as we set up our new Pee-Wee tribute show. And the secret word of the day is... this is a TOTALLY AMAZING, INSANELY GOOD SHOW!! If you like Pee-Wee Herman and grew up watching him, you MUST come see this show. It's really really good. Here's Jason Liwag's contribution, a print set of three of our fav characters from the playhouse: Pee-Wee, of course, Cowboy Curtis, and Captain Carl.
There are so many great pieces in this show, we'll be posting sneak peaks throughout the week, so stay tuned...
