CULT APPROACHING!!

It's our 1000th post on the blog! YAYYYYY!

And no better thing to talk about during such a monumental post than CRAZY 4 CULT! The opening of the show's 5th installment is just around the corner on July 8th, and we're starting to see a lot of the pieces and we are blown away. Next week we'll start really previewing the work here on the blog, including introducing you to a new artist to the G1988 family that we're so ecstatic to debut at CFC.

But until then, here is some media to get you in the mood for the show...which does include the first look at a CFC piece on the blog!

First up...I was interviewed by Aint It Cool News, which was pretty awesome. You can click the photo for the interview...

Then filmmaker Mat de Koning has been making a documentary for over 6 years! And during those 6 years one stop he made was at Crazy 4 Cult 2009 to follow artist Jodee Knowles. He documented the night and decided to put together an awesome video showing his experience and the night's insanity. It's pretty awesome and gives some first timers what to expect from CFC. THANKS MAT!

And lastly, but not leasty, we have Danielle Buerli who made an amazing little short that chronicles the process of creating her piece for Crazy 4 Cult 5. It's a sculpture and it's brilliant. Just not sure why Danielle is wearing that human suit.

There's more where this came from.

It is cool...

As a life-long fan of AintItCool, it's always awesome to get a shout-out over there. This time it was a surprise, even though the Head Geek did pick up the Israel Sanchez...

Test the Contest

So a few months back we announced a contest with our friends at AintItCool.com where artists could send in their Crazy 4 Cult cult movie-themed submissions tot he gallery, and a winner would be chosen to have their piece included in the actual show, as well win a prize package of signed prints and posters. Well the deadline to turn in pieces for that contest have come and gone, and we've narrowed it down to 11 finalists. There is a panel of esteemed judges now affixing points to each piece, from their favorite to their....less favorite than the one before it, but I figured why not let the blog in on the process. If you want, leave a comment or send in an email with your opinions (we gave each piece a number, leaving off the artists' names for now leveling the playing field) and we'll incorporate it into our scoring process in some way. Be nice, cause mean comments get denied like The Jonas Brothers trying to buy Rolling Rocks.

#1 - Todd Browning's Freaks

#2 - Eraserhead

#3 - West World (GREAT movie, rent it if you haven't seen it)

#4 - Todd Browning's Freaks

#5 - Ju-On

#6 - El Topo

#7 - Attack of the Killer Tomatoes

#8 - Porky's

#9 - The Japanese Horror Genre

#10 - Clockwork Orange

#11 - The Warriors/Trainspotting

There ya go. Thanks to everyone who submitted work for the contest and good luck to our finalists.

Also, speaking, we will officially open our Andrew Wilson cult poster contest tomorrow...so get your thinking caps ready. And for those who have already read about the contest from our email, we'll be posting larger poster pictures for you to work with on crazy4cult.com in the next day or so.

It was cool...

Today is the last day of our AintItCool.com contest, where you can send in your cult-movie inspired submissions, and a group of judges (we're still trying to get Judge Dredd involved) will select one winner to be included in the actual Crazy 4 Cult 2 show, as well as get a nice prize package of goodies. So if you've been waiting to send in your submission, make sure to get it in today. We've gotten almost 100 entries, so this is gonna be a fun one to narrow down. We'll be posting the finalists next week, and we'd love to hear your opinions.

In the meanwhile....they're coming...

Yes, It Is.

Today we announced a fun little contest over at AintItCool.com, which is dope in my eyes as I've been reading Harry's site since college, where AICN readers, and you, can submit an entry to be included in August 22's Crazy 4 Cult 2 art show. You can read about it by CLICKING HERE! And also, as you see, the winner will get a bunch of prints too!

We're really excited about the possibilities of this contest, as past contests have allowed artists like Roland Tamayo to show in 1988 for the first time, and we all know how awesome that is.

I'll keep the blog up to date too, maybe show off some of the great entries.

Out of Site

When I had heard they call today "Cyber Monday," I didn't think it was going to because our normal gallery website would be out of commission for the day. We're in the midst of a transition at the site, and the bottom fell out. Let's hope for the best, as it should be back up and running later tonight.

I've seen some of the work for the upcoming Vivisect Playset show in SF and it looks GREAT! I'm predicting a real fight over some of these pieces.

I want to send a shout out to our friends over at AintItCool.com who included, not one, not two, but three of our Crazy 4 Cult prints, on their annual Holiday Gift Guide (Chris Lee poster, Nathan Ota and Stella Im Hultberg). I used to check out that gift guide for the past handful of years and actually use it to compile a list of crap I want from my family, so it was pretty cool to see the gallery make it up there.

And lastly, in a day when things can't get much worse online, I figured I'd give something beautiful to make it all better...I'll just post it right now....more talk on this EXPLOSION of a show later. Jan of 2008 will bring...
