W.

We're proud to announce Gray Haddock as the winner of our Crazy 4 Cult 3-D Tim Doyle poster contest. A few applicants actually got all of the movie references correct, so we printed them out and allowed my dog, Benjamin, to choose the winning email. So Benjamin likes Gray! If you're looking for the key and answers, check out last month's blog entry archive, under the name "Sus-tense."

Congrats Gray! And look out for next year's contest!

Sus-tense

Wanna test how impatient the world can be? Run a free contest that ends August 8th, then wait a week to post answers? It's kinda amazing.

Anyway, although we're still going through emails of people's guesses on naming every weapon in the Crazy 4 Cult 3-D Tim Doyle poster, we figured we'd still put the key and answers up and let the calm kick in before we've picked the winner.

So here we go, and yes before you complain, he included cult properties that have movies coming out next year. Kind of a loophole, but also kind of fun:

T. Thermal Detonator - Return of the Jedi
U. Training Sphere - A New Hope
V. Killer Ball - Phantasm
W. Fork - Army of Darkness

New Contest Ya'll

Those on our mailing list may have seen this announcement already, but now the contest is about to go full swing. Andrew Wilson's cult poster is causing quite a stir, as it should, it's freaking amazing. Besides being available for only $35 starting August 22 at 7 PM, e also are having a contest where if you can name every character name depicted in the piece, you win not only the actual print signed by Andrew Wilson and some surprise guests, but you also get a ton of other Crazy 4 Cult prints and merch too! It's a full fledged contest, like we did last year with Chris Lee's Cult poster. Here is the poster, and it's blank numbered counterpart.

So, just match the character's name from the cult movie with the corresponding number and send it over to our email address, gallery1988@aol.com by August 28 and we'll select one winner to take home an awesome prize package. Now, I know these are a little small to do your thang, but we've posted larger, clickable versions on www.crazy4cult.com now, so use those as your points of reference. Good luck to all, you'll need it. 130?????

We're all WINNERS with VERY long blog posts!

So, off the heels of the Freddi C. / J. Shea show in SF, we're ready to announce the winners of the Cult Movie poster contest here in LA. Let's first go over what the Grand Prize winnger gets:

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

A signed Crazy 4 Cult poster by some of our attendees -

Top row - Michael Rapaport (True Romance, Higher Learning, etc.), Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction, Snakes on a Plane, everything), Richard Kelley (writer/director of Donnie Darko)
Bottom row - Edgar Wright (writer/director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz), Scott Mosier (producer of Clerks, Mallrats) and Kevin Smith (writer/director of Clerks, Mallrats, etc.)

Pretty gosh darn serious there. The winner also gets Artist Proof's of both the Greg Simkins "Ed's Losing" print and the Matt Dangler Willy Wonka print (both available, or going to be available, on crazy4cult.com).

We also selected 4 runners-up, who did get all the movies correct, but were not the ONE selected (dare I say "Our Neo"). We did another drawing, and these 4 people will win one, or both, of these Kevin Smith/View Askew products:

Randall Mooby's Shirt

OK, so there were 28 movies represented on the poster, which I would list here, but I find very boring. If you want the list, send me an email.

8 people got all 28 movies in their answer and Brian Librot was the email we selected! (P.S. this is the first time these winners will find out, as I haven't emailed them yet). The Runners-Up are Kieron Menzies, Max V., Emily Wong and Jesse Yu.

CONGRATS to all our winners!

The press is still reeling in from Crazy 4 Cult, as well as just the gallery in general. Check out this really great paparzzi picture of Nicky Hilton moving into her new house carrying Misha's Mario Tea Party piece she picked up from G1988.

"Click HERE for MTV's article." Some great pics there too. I spot Isaac Pierro, Misha and Peter Gronquist (who will be married this weekend, CONGRATS!).

"Click HERE for G4's TV segment."

And here's a picture of Zak Knutson, the donkey f*cker from "Clerks 2," pointing this himself in Misha's "Mooby's Last Supper."

It was cool to see him excited to be "immortilized" (his words) in a painting. The banging a donkey thing is just a detail.

This week will begin the sneak peeks at pieces for our next show in LA, "The Guys' Guys," which will feature artwork from Matt "Lebron" Dangler, Travis Lampe, Roland Tamayo, Zach Johnsen, Rich Tuzon, Jose Emroca Flores, Parskid, Andrew Wilson, Peter Taylor and The (Dave) Chung! This puppu will open August 14 and trust me when I say these guys are stepping it up! But for now....I'm going to go breathe.

Who Needs A Kwik-E-Mart? I DOOOOO!

I think we're the only people in LA this busy the day before July 4th. We haven't stopped all day. Insane. First up...

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

There's the INCREDIBLE Crazy 4 Cult movie poster done by Chris Lee. These things will be $15, and available at the opening reception, and every day after that at our website. Good signing material for Chris Lee, Kevin Smith, and maybe some other directors rumored to be appearing (one might force a very scary bunny to follow you everywhere until you vandalize your high school though, so watch out there).

BUT THE COOL THING IS....we're also having a contest with this print, where if you can name ALL the cult movie references in the poster, and we pick your name out of a hat, you'll get a FREE Chris Lee poster (with all the best signatures on it) and ARTIST PROOFS of two prints we're working on for Crazy 4 Cult, Greg Simkins and Matt Dangler. Both two pieces that CAN NOT BE missed. Email your attempts to gallery1988@aol.com. Prizes to be distributed by August 31.

Yesterday, on my day off, I made my way over to the 7-11 on Venice to see the transformation (excuse the Summer movie pun, as I also saw that movie last night and didn't hate it) into the Simpson's Kwik-E-Mart. Seems that for a dozen 7-11s around the globe, they turned the convenience store into the one seen in Springfield. I'm an uber fan of the show, so I figured why not let you guys in on the fun. here are my photos:

Outside it was way busier than you'd think and it looked more like the cartoon than I figured too. Bart and Millhouse up top, sitting, drinking a slushie, with Millhouse complaining about his divorced parents and his glasses. I guess we see why he's my fav.

Well, that's enough nerdom for the day. I don't think I can type anymore as I thought today was supposed to be slow, and it isn't. ARGH. Here's to a more witty posting next time.
