Danimal
Our friends at Hi-Frutose and interviewer/artist/magician Nathan Spoor posted a GREAT interview with Dan May, as we enter the weekend before "Into The Wild," Dan's first solo show at G1988:LA. The work for this show is so stunning, and you get to see some serious peeks in this article.
You can read it, and see the pieces, by CLICKING HERE.
THANKS GUYS!

Sugar Rushed
The morning after our Hi-Fructose "Bitters and Sweets" opening and I'm really sick. I've been fighting some sort of cold/flu/SARS all week, and it's finally winning the battle. My Doctor put me on Pencillin, which made me feel like a sick baby from the 1930's, but let's hope it does the job. I always get sick around this time of the year based on the weather change, so next year I will wear parkas, scarves and mittens from November 1 - November 15. Which SUCKS because tomorrow is my birthday. No one likes to be sick on their birthday, except for melophobes (people afraid that "Happy Birthday" will be sung to them, which is not a joke).
It's hard to stop talking about myself, but let's try. All the work from "Bitters and Sweets" is now available to view and purchase online HERE. Saying there are great pieces left is an understatement. Call us up if anything interests you...we can talk about how my throat hurts...or melophobes.
I'll post pics of the opening as soon as the dizziness goes away.

I Like Abba Zabbas
We're in the midst of installing Hi-Fructose's "Bitters and Sweets" group show here at the LA Gallery and I'm not kidding when I say this show is beautiful. There are some real stunners in the show, but what do you expect from a line-up that includes Ron English, Glenn Barr, Naoto Hattori, Alex Pardee, KMNDZ and David Stoupakis - as well as introduces new stars like Yoko d'Hollbachie, Jennybird and Peap? And that's only 9 of the well over 40 artists participating. Hi-Frutose braintrust Annie Owens and Attaboy are not only contributing artwork, but also putting together a gallery installation that is a massive undertaking in itself. All in the name of candy and all things pink!
Here's a few EXCLUSIVE sneak peeks that might just have your sweet tooth tingling...
Ken Keirns

KMNDZ

Naoto Hattori

Matt Dangler

Camilla d'Errico

David Stoupakis

This is just a taste, so I'm telling ya, this show is a home run! With or without Joe Torre in LA.

Highly Saturated in Fructose
You see it here first! The new cover of Hi-Fructose, Volume 6, featuring the work of artist Yoko d'Holbachie, an absolute genius digital artist that will be participating in the upcoming Hi-Fructose "Bitters and Sweets" art show here at Gallery 1988, and more here at G1988: LA and SF. Annie and Attaboy have come up with a line-up of artists for this exhibit they've curated that is just flawless. Write it in your calendars now...the Hi-Fructose show featuring not only Yoko, but Ron English, KMNDZ, Travis Louie, Matt Dangler and many others, will open November 6, 2007. The magazine will be released at the opening reception, and the way these things fly, you better make sure to pick up your copy that night!
We also are just 2 days away from our next Crazy4Cult.com release, the second series of Scott Campbell Showdowns. You can actually see it now, and a small surprise for the quickest to call us with $200 on Thursday at noon PST, at the website. We're going to have another release 2 weeks later on the site as well, with our most limited print of all time. I'll fill you in on that next time I see you. Cause in just a week, it's time to see the next 7 Luke Chueh paintings!!!!!

We're High In Sugar
Here at 1988 we're pretty tight lipped about our schedule. Been so since we opened back in 2004. We usually like to keep our shows secret until the month before, sometimes leaking some stuff 3 months in advance, but usually always shocking you at the last second. Well, here's the exception. We're proud to announce:

High Fructose presents: "Bitters and Sweets" at Gallery 1988: LA
Yup, our favorite magazine will be curating a show here at G1988: LA, opening Nov.6, 2007!
It's a show loosely based on sweet, sweet candy! SUGAR SUGAR SUGAR RUSH! Why am I already so hyper, before even the chance to engulf the best candies in the whole wide world (my favorite are Aba Zabbas in case you're wondering)? Because here's the line-up (so far). We're actually hiding some names until the last possible moment (gotta keep the secretive tradition alive) and people are being added by the minute.
AARON TOMPKINS
ALEX PARDEE
ANNIE OWENS
ANTHONY AUSGANG
ATTABOY
BRIAN MCCARTY
CAMILLA D'ERRICO
CAT CHOW
CHRIS UPHUES
DAVID STOUPAKIS
EDWIN USHIRO
ERIK ALOS
FAWN GEHWEILER
GARY TAXALI
GLENN BARR
GREG MORRIS (GRRR)
JAIME ZACARIAS (GERMS)
JASON D'AQUINO
JENNY BIRD
JENNY HARADA
JONATHAN WAYSHAK
JOSH ELLINGSON
KEN KEIRNS
KRK RYDEN
LESLEY REPPETEAUX
MARS-1
MATT DANGLER
NATHAN FOX
NAOTO HATTORI
PARSKID
PEAP (Samapeap Tarr)
RON ENGLISH
SAUERKIDS
BRICKBOY
SQUINDO
TRAVIS LOUIE
WONDERFARMERS
WOW.......INCREDIBLE, right? And they still got tricks up their sleeve! There will also be a magazine release that night of their newest issue, themed the same, and with the participating artists!!!!!!
Please stay away from my Jelly Bellies. I like the hot Cinnamon ones, and HATE the Buttered Popcorns. You can also have the Tootsie Rolls. They look like poo.

Friends In Hi Places
We have the EXCLUSIVE first look at he brand new Volume 5 cover of our favorite art magazine, Hi Fructose, and low and behold...

...it graces the image of Amy Sol's I AM 8-BIT masterpiece, "Peach & Yoshi In Subcon, The Land Of Dreams!!!!!" We're HUGE fans of the magazine, so to see a piece we've displayed on the cover, with the likes of Mark Ryden paintings and such that have had the same placement in the past, is an honor for us....so we can only imagine how Amy feels! CONGRATS Amy and nice selection Hi Fructose. Video game art seeping into everyday life my friends....we've only just begun.

The Furleys Knock On Our Door
After some horrid miscues on my part, artists Annie Owens and Attaboy (who, for the record, can not have a "Solo Show" when they're showing as a pair) swung by and talked shop today. I'm really a fan of both their work, and their magazine Hi-Fructose is what I like to call "next in line," so it was a pleasure seeing them. We have a rather large undertaking together in the end of 2007, which for now is thinly under wraps, but it's shaping up to be a worth while tag team (consider us "The Bushwackers" of Underground Art). But for now, we'll just share our love for Dan Goodsell's Mr. Toast, the amazement in Mark Ryden's new show and the hard task of smiling for photos.
